Steelers manhandle Jets in first half

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Roethlisberger directs play against the Jets in first quarter during the NFL AFC Championship football game in Pittsburgh

Jets coach Rex Ryan needs a miracle to avoid another AFC Championship game loss.

The Steelers lead 24-3 at halftime after a thoroughly dominant 30 minutes of football.  The Steelers piled up 231 total yards to only 50 for the Jets.  Pittsburgh’s beleaguered offensive line mauled the Jets defense with 135 yards on the ground, including 95 by Rashard Mendenhall alone.   The Jets have one rushing yard.

This has been big boy football by the entire Steelers team.  Ike Taylor forced a Mark Sanchez fumble that was picked up by cornerback William Gay and returned for a touchdown.

The Jets have been a fourth quarter team all year, but they have a lot of work to do just to make the fourth quarter of this game interesting.

UPDATE: Jets are off to a good start in bid to make it interesting.  A bomb to Santonio Holmes cut the lead to 24-10 early in the third quarter.

when did the movement of the arm matter more than the direction of the ball? the ball went backwards (not by much). why arent the commentators focusing on that? the ball goes backwards= fumble end of story.

Jets are done. Theyre being dominated on both sides of the field. I expected a much better performance than this from them. Bad play calling, bad throws, bad hands, bad tackling.

Thats a recipe for a blowout against a tough team like the Steelers on the road

I guess Gregggg doesn’t realize that the Jets actually won the Super Bowl last week. No rings. No conference championships. Way to be Jets. Way to be.

    ONE yard rushhing?????

    FIFTY yards total offense????

Can Mark Sanchez look any worse????

As a Patriots fan, this performance from Rex Ryan and the Jets defense really pisses me off. Where the hell is the mighty Jets defense that knocked out both Peyton Manning’s and Tom Brady’s offenses?????

Rex…nice AFC runner-up finish again. You have great teams…you have no idea how to win championships. Note to self…you will never win by classless trash talking.

I guess that’s what happens when you win a divisonal round game and act like you won the superbowl.

I wonder if Braylon Edwards will be doing gymnastics after the game?

  23. 8man says: Jan 23, 2011 9:04 PM

The Steelers are able to run the ball. That and Rottenfarter is actually taking off and running, something Brady didn’t do.

I have money on the Steelers. I hate them. I hope I lose. I can make more money, but if they win another Super Bowl, that’s forever.

    Damn that coal and piss!

  24. sdboltaction says: Jan 23, 2011 9:04 PM
