Jets coach Rex Ryan promised that his goals won’t change next year. But he knows his team won’t be the same.
Veterans like Jason Taylor, Shaun Ellis, Trevor Pryce, Tony Richardson, and LaDaianian Tomlinson were among those left to wonder after Sunday’s loss in Pittsburgh if they would ever get so close to a Super Bowl title again.
“There are so many emotions going through me right now. We’ll cross that bridge in the future,” Taylor said after the game while fighting back tears.
Florio reported back in October that Taylor will retire this offseason, although Taylor hasn’t confirmed it. One thing was certain, though. Next year’s Jets will be different. They have a lot of veterans with contracts up.
“This team, as you see it tonight, will never be together again,” Taylor said. Even the young players knew it.
“That’s the most heartbreaking thing, knowing this room is not going to be the same anymore,” defensive tackle Sione Pouha told the Newark Star-Ledger.
