With a new contract extension giving him some job security, Dolphins G.M. Jeff Ireland is talking about his vision for the future of the franchise -- and saying that future may still include Chad Henne at quarterback.

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross says he wants an “aggressive” and “exciting” offense, and Ireland told Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post that Henne fits that description.

“He’s shown some aggressive tendencies, he’s shown some exciting throws,” Ireland said. “He’s got all the ability in the world. We’ve just got to put a plan together and an offensive philosophy that fits Chad Henne, and I think we’ll do that.”

Some Dolphins fans would respond that Henne, who has 27 touchdown passes and 33 interceptions in his two seasons as the team’s starter, simply hasn’t shown that there’s any offensive philosophy in which he’s a good fit.

But right now, Ireland is talking like a man who still believes Henne could be his franchise quarterback.
