Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey is no longer giving predictions about his status for the Super Bowl.

A few days after saying he planned to play against the Packers despite a high ankle sprain, Pouncey declined to comment when asked Wednesday by NFL Network’s Albert Breer. A few Steelers writers noted that Pouncey is a rookie, and his original optimism may have come from immaturity and hope more than anything.

There is another concerning sign about Pouncey’s status.

Breer reports that Pouncey was wearing a hard cast over his ankle rather than an aircast or a walking boot. He was moving on crutches to get around.
