Packers change course, will take team photo Friday with everyone

Jermichael Finley

Packers linebacker Nick Barnett, tight end Jermichael Finley and the 14 other Packers  on injured reserve got the happy ending they were looking for.

Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press Gazette reports the Packers have chosen to take their team picture Friday during Super Bowl week,  injured reserve players and all.

It’s a sensible solution that rights a wrong, and keeps everyone happy.   The injured players get their place in history, while the Packers still won’t bring them to Dallas until next Thursday as originally planned.

Now we just a new silly Super Bowl controversy to talk about.  10 days to go!

Good job Packers. You can get a pass now for your original mistake.

Are you trying to make this into a story, or are you truly fascinated by this?

  3. nokoolaidcowboy says: Jan 26, 2011 2:12 PM

Nice move but it should have been this decision from the start. Reflects poorly on the brass does not reflect the fans. The fans I’m sure wanted this beginning.

  4. jimmysee says: Jan 26, 2011 2:12 PM

How about seating Packers stockholders in the stands behind the team!?

  6. andyprough says: Jan 26, 2011 2:13 PM

Glad to see that they are focusing on game planning.

How are the Packer wives? Are they getting all their nail appointments and massage appointments set up? Who is in charge of the Dallas shopping trips to the Galleria? Everybody needs a new purse and some shoes and an outfit or two, I’m sure. Wouldn’t want the wives unhappy – better get on that Cheeseheads

Guess the Steelers will just have to focus on boring stuff like installing defensive wrinkles to confuse Rodgers

  7. canadianvikingfaniii says: Jan 26, 2011 2:13 PM

I can’t believe that was even a thought to leave them out. The right choice was made in having them in it as well

  8. tomnickle says: Jan 26, 2011 2:14 PM

The Steelers should sneak Omar Epps into a media session disguised as Mike Tomlin and have the real Tomlin enter at the end of the question period. Now that would be a fun thing to watch.

  11. hobartbaker says: Jan 26, 2011 2:20 PM

Turns out Barnett was in the photo all along. But for some weird reason he didn’t show up. Same thing when he stood in front of the dressing room mirrors.

    You’ll no doubt get one.
Just watch any footage, very carefully, of Aaron Rodgers as he walks through airports.

  16. sleazysnake says: Jan 26, 2011 2:26 PM

    whoop de freaking do!

Like any of this has anything to do with what is going to happen on the field.

None of those IR players are eligible to play the Super Bowl game.

This is a waste of time

  17. arm57romg says: Jan 26, 2011 2:26 PM

I think it’s hilarious they automatically assume that picture will make it to the wall. Something tells me they won’t be getting a ring or a picture on the wall…

  19. rpiotr01 says: Jan 26, 2011 2:28 PM

I admit, I wasn’t with the player son this one initially but I was swayed by what Barnett said. Especially a guy like him, he’s been around 7 years with the team, been through good times and bad, you want to be part of that legacy despite blowing out his knee this year.

Good move by the team, it doesn’t hurt them at all and makes players and fans happy.

  20. godofwine330 says: Jan 26, 2011 2:31 PM

This is a great way to calm a PR headache. Every player should be included in the team picture who is currently on the team. The squeeky wheel has gotten the oil. Some people have said that complaining doesn’t accomplish anything. But this situation here clearly shows that when you are unhappy about a rule that you believe is wrong you should speak up. Maybe, just maybe, it might be changed.

  27. dwhitehurst says: Jan 26, 2011 2:36 PM

Brilliant solution all around!!!! It shows both a willingness to honor their players when they’re being slighted, even if it was unintentional (so that the media can’t run with it as a knock against the Packers org.), yet doing so without compromising their original schedule/plans (so that the media can’t feel like they have control over the decisions the Packers Org. makes).

Can Farve be in the picture too? I know he isn’t on the team right now, but I am guess he will get one of those one day contracts so he can retire as a cheese packer. Why not get him in on the team photo? If it wasn’t for him Aaron wouldn’t the the QB he is today…..

“Its about time. What a blunder of an organization to not have known it was a bad idea from the beginning.”

    @contra74

Yeah that’s almost as bad as throwing away a 3rd round pick on a washed up WR, then cutting him a few weeks later.

Or throwing 20 million at an over the hill QB.

I gotta just laugh at Viking fans that take about other organizations blunders. The pot called, it says you’re black.

    LOL!

  40. johnnyshore says: Jan 26, 2011 2:54 PM

Whenever there’s a typo or a missing word — “need” — I glance to see who the author of the article is. Almost 100% of the time it’s Rosenthal. I’m starting to think this is his calling card.

  43. alarmbottle says: Jan 26, 2011 3:03 PM

As a Packers fan, I’m glad they can get these players in the photos, especially long time player Barnett. It’d be awfully classy if they allow former players like Al Harris and Aaron Kampman to visit (on their own costs of course).

  44. iluvwikileaks says: Jan 26, 2011 3:04 PM

I hope James Harrison decapitates Rodgers in the Super Bowl:)

    I feel left out.

  46. southbeachtalent says: Jan 26, 2011 3:07 PM

  50. rugdog100 says: Jan 26, 2011 3:32 PM

I’m tellin’ ya… That Packers management/coaching staff can’t get out of their own way half the time. Is this on Ted Thompson, McCarthy or both? Somebody had to agree with the stupid idea to omit IR players. Doesn’t matter if there’s 15 or 1, let them be in the team photo. Gosh for dumb…

  51. heyooooh says: Jan 26, 2011 3:45 PM

Ted Thompson is going to have to go “To the cloud!” to fix the picture because Nick Barnett will be looking down as he tweets about his excitement at being in the picture, Matthews will be doing his infamous hair shake, McCarthy will be looking for the right pen to stick in the back of his hat, & Favre will randomly stroll in front of the camera.

  52. scerpico22 says: Jan 26, 2011 4:10 PM

Actually the reason I bought in is to assure the team will NEVER leave Green Bay, nor be run into the ground by some idiot/cheapskate/egomaniac/know-it-all/hillybilly/out-of-town/senile/etc. owner (you know who they are).

I think its a good deal. When I talk about “my team” — it’s the truth.

  58. emperorzero says: Jan 26, 2011 5:16 PM

At first I didn’t think it was a big deal until I read Barnett’s stance. I think it’s the right move. Whether they are injured or not, Barnett, Finley and co. helped the Packers get to this spot and deserve to be in the photo.

  59. pervyharvin says: Jan 26, 2011 5:55 PM

Hey, I got over 100 “thumbs downs” from the Cheeseheads for saying their team is focusing on team photos instead of game planning

Guess there are a lot of uptight Packer fans out there right now? What’s wrong – worried that your group of “Me First” high-priced free agents and fantasy football heroes aren’t going to prepare properly for the game?

    You better be worried…

Mr. Rodgers – meet Mr. Harrison, Mr. Farrior, Mr. Woodley, Mr. Timmons and Mr. Foote. Steeler linebackers don’t give a damm about the team photo – they smell blood

No doubt he would be upset seeing the Packers beat the Vikings old rust bucket of a QB this year twice who also stabbed his Packers in the back.
And he wouldn’t have liked it at all seeing the Packers beat the Bears in the NFCCG to get to the Super Bowl.
    Your right.
If he could see how well the Packers are doing right now, Lombardi would hate them.

  67. jarrman46 says: Jan 26, 2011 6:49 PM

Steelers better get there game plan set cause there going to have to score at least 35 points to have a chance in this game. Rodgers and his recieving core are going to eat that sorry secondary up. This isnt seattle or Arizona your playing this time. This is the perfect matchup for Green Bay. I would have been more worried if the Jets or Ravens would have won the AFC.
Its all falling in place. FEB 06 2011 a new dynasty is born in professional football and an old dynasty is put to sleep.

Experiencing a little Packer Envy are we? Well, that’s okay. If you’re not the lead dog … the view is always the same. Maybe some day your team will get to the Super Bowl too; but for now … you’ll have to keep amusing yourselves by writing nasty little notes on sites like this.

So what the hell … go ahead boys … write some more! It won’t ease your pain, but it will give us something more to chuckle over as we get ready for Super Sunday.

Also, glad to hear all the players will be in the team photo. A nice touch for the new plaque I’ll be purchasing for the den.

C’mon Token. This material is seriously getting old– You regurgitate this same old “Fat, drunk, stupid Wisconsin people” schtick more than a bunch of bolemic SI models after their lunchbreak.

Token, you need some new material. Preferably with intelligence. Now, “Lomlardy” is a little better, at least headed in the right direction. I mean, if you insist on trolling, then at least do us and this blog a favor and write something intelligent and creative.

Anyone can Google your last sentence: “Can I borrow your face for a few days while my ass is on vacation?” and find it’s a standard insult line not of your own making.)
