TNA offers steel cage to Chad Johnson, Marvin Lewis

Bengals receiver Chad Johnson f/k/a Ochocinco wants to stay in Cincinnati, but he says he needs to fight coach Marvin Lewis before doing so.

On Twitter, Ochocinco has suggested a steel cage match.  And the folks at TNA wrestling are willing to comply.

In a press release issued Wednesday, the group that once gave Bengals cornerback Pacman Jones a vehicle for moonlighting offered to provide the steel cage.

Sure, it’s a blatant publicity stunt.  And, sure, it meshes well with Chad’s mastery of publicity.

Indeed, Chad is a lot smarter than most of us realize, as explained during the monologue portion of Wednesday’s PFT Live.

Besides, Johnson should be upset with Lewis.  For eight years, the coach coddled and cuddled and enabled Chad.  It’s wrong for Lewis to have done nothing for years and then to all of a sudden snap.

So we’re on your side, Chad.  And we’re not saying that in order to get you to be a guest on PFT Live in Dallas.  We’re doing it so you’ll rescind your vow to give us not one but two ass whoopings.

  1. Och is sifting through the offers. Steel cage from TNA, set of monkey bars from a preschool, and a straightjacket from another local institution.

  2. Sure that’s going to happen. Apparently, the new Chad Johnson is doing everything possible to get traded from Cincinnati.

  3. Ass Whoopings????????

Chad ( El Ochocino) Johnson couldn’t find his own ass with two hands and a flashlight.

  4. Yeah, yeah, it’s a joke and I’m not taking it seriously. But it’s still insulting to Marv. Most of Chad’s behavior over the years has been insulting to his coach, and you’re right that his coach should have addressed it before now. But that doesn’t mean he owes #85 anything. Levy should dump him. No comment, no nothing. Hasn’t he still got a year on his contract? Then the Bengals should trade him to whatever team suits them for whatever compensation they can get and be done with it.

  5. typical situation, player who thinks the league and the organization owe him something. I wonder if the NFL wasnt around what he would be doing…

Ohh yeah trying to borrow money from me telling me how he is just about to be the next big thing..

Typical for a showboat lets rename him Ocho Ohh no… Just lock it up..

  6. Yeah, good old Chad can sure talk some garbage. Funny, a couple of years ago he offered to meet Shawn Merrimann and mix it up. When Shawn said, “let’s do it,” Ochosucko pussed out with a “Child please!”

Yeah, Chad’s a bad ass. Yawn.

  7. Take it from a wrestling fan, TNA is a joke.

And when you’re a joke in the wrestling business, you can’t fall much further in life.

“Never heard of TNA? Chad’s 85 seconds of fame are just about up!”

It is on Spiketv Thursday Nights, if you are interested.

TNA needs to stay away from this one time publicity stunt type of junk. Improve the product and people will watch. They need to build up their own young talent. A publicity stunt doesn’t do any good if the rest of the product isn’t something that the vast majority of people would continue to tune in for.

They have a lot of gorgeous women wrestlers on the show, and they can actually wrestle. Unfortunately, they get so little air time compared to the men.

I am not looking forward to watching Hulk Hogan come back. IMO, he eats up too much air time. I can watch Rick Flair in small doses.

Chad Johnson needs to turn off the constant self promotion mode. IMO, it becomes a distraction and is an embarrassment. Johnson isn’t getting any younger. At some point in time his talent will begin to fade and his chronic self promotion will out way his talent. At that point, there will be fewer and fewer teams willing to sign him to their roster.

  9. Chad – You shut up and make the plays on the field. You are a big LOOSER (All Caps). You will be only taken by a loosing team. Belichick will not take you even if you are free agent and are willing to work for him for free. You are cancer to any team.

  10. Who’s this Chad Johnson you speak of? You can’t just say you’re changing your name, you actually have to get it done legally. He’s still Chad Ochocinco tilll he does that

  11. @Deb – 100% correct.

The man is a self-marketing genius. Like it or not, his name (or names) is out there. This is what he wants. Sadly (or maybe thankfully), his antics have finally worn thin on his teammates. Been saying for years to get rid of this distraction. Well, now it looks like he has destroyed this team. Carson wants out and other teammates are finally speaking up and saying the circus sideshow should go. Time to get serious.

Yeah, I know it’s the Bungles. But they’re my Bungles. My team. They’re an O-coordinator away from being a good team. Get rid of all distractions now.

  12. @cincinnatifan …

Don’t think I’ve ever called them the Bungles. Last year they looked good until season’s end. It’s sad when an owner isn’t interested in taking a few extra steps for the team–especially when the owner has Mike Brown’s lineage.

I’ve never cared for #85 but at least I could see the method to his madness. He lost me this T.O. thing. Doesn’t matter that his numbers were good, T.O. is a cancer. And with him around, Chad wasn’t getting the attention or catches he usually has. Since he kept quiet through a lot of T.O.’s rants, I thought he’d figured that out. But they’re still talking like a package deal. Chad was a talented player with a lot of personality. Too bad it’s turned out this way.

Situations were different and I have nothing against Santonio Holmes, but he needed to go. Seemed like we didn’t get much for him, but that trade got us the guy who caught the conversion pass that sealed our win against the Jets. Maybe you guys can make a deal for Chad and at least get something for him.

  13. @gojags who’s the real “LOOSER”? A professional athlete that helps add entertainment and comic relief, or somebody with no life who spends all their time on message boards, but doesn’t even know how to spell the word loser?
