105,000* expected at Super Bowl XLV

Though Jerry Jones’ team won’t be playing in the first Super Bowl to be played in his new stadium, Jones will have one thing that he can celebrate as he’s watching two of the Cowboys’ top non-division rivals vie for the Lombardi Trophy.

A whopping 105,000 people are expected to attend Super Bowl XLIV, according to the Dallas Morning News (via SportsBusiness Daily).

That number includes 95,000 fans inside the stadium, 5,000 media and staff, and 5,000 who will be paying $200 each to watch the game on a screen outside the stadium.

Those extra 5,000 will push the game beyond the league’s record attendance of 103,985, in Super Bowl XIV between the Rams and the Steelers.

Since the extra 5,000 won’t actually be inside the stadium, the placement of an asterisk next to the official number is appropriate, but unlikely.
