The pitch for Mike Tomlin to replace Jeff Fisher on the Competition Committee is unpersuasive.

“The Steelers are football… .” And the other 31 teams in the National Football League are not?

Arguing that Mike Tomlin should be Fisher’s replacement because he “…has become one of the best coaches in the league…” is no more persuasive than me arguing the same for Bill Belichick.

The Steelers, like the Patriots, have enough political muscle in the NFL. Let’s give another well-qualified candidate on a less fortunate team a voice on this prestigious Committee.

Yes, but you are a mature, rational, objective adult Patriots fan thinking about what’s best for the NFL. You are talking to people who don’t care about the game, the league, reality, or being rational. They are consumed by petty hates and are not in your class.

I think fans of the Steelers maybe overestimate themselves a bit. No denying they’re a great franchise with a large fanbase. But so are the Packers, the Bears, the Cowboys, the Patriots, the Giants, the Jets and so on and so forth.

The Competition Committee is co-chaired by Fisher and Jeff McKay, president of the Falcons. Other members are NFL VP Ray Anderson, owners John Mara of the Giants and Stephen Jones of the Cowboys, Colts president Bill Polian, GMs Ozzie Newsome of the Ravens and Rick Smith of the Texans, and Coach Marv Lewis of the Bengals.

So the Giants and Cowboys already are represented on the committee by their owners. Mike’s suggestion has nothing to do with homerism nor Steelers fans overestimating themselves. Nor should it be about rival fans pitching infantile hissy fits because they dislike a franchise. I don’t like the Cowboys, but that has nothing to do with the Competition Committee. Is anyone posting here over the age of 12?

Tomlin is a young, respected, highly successful coach in a stable employment situation with a longtime NFL franchise. And since Cowher was also a member of the Competition Committee, it’s reasonable to suggest Tomlin as a possibility to replace Fisher.

Tomlin would be a great addition to the CC. Not because he’s a Steeler, but because he’s a critical thinker and a proponent of physical but safe play.

Yeah. Lets put the guy in charge of one of the dirtiest on-field teams in the NFL on the competition committee.

I don’t think the Steelers are overall a dirty team but he would be replacing the coach of a team that IS filthy so if your supposition were correct it would be an apt substitution.

I want a strong willed defensive minded HC to replace Fisher on the CC. I am sick of all the rules promoting pass offense. Maybe a strong contrary voice will help change some of that. I would like McCarthy to be considered if it’s an offensive minded HC. Dude is tough, no nonsense and old school.

With Tomlin on the committee, I am sure he would try and change that, and by “that” I mean, stop calling those personal fouls on Pittsburgh, and call more of them on Pittsburgh’s opponent (like everything other penalty)…

And why does the replacement need to be a head coach? Why not Dungy? I’m pretty sure PFT would be all for that…

Yet if you read the Steelers message board, you’ll still find a not insignificant population of fans that think he’s terrible.
