Will Allen expected to be cut by Dolphins

The NFL said during their media session Thursday that nothing is preventing teams from signing their players to long-term contracts before March 4.

Nothing will prevent them from releasing players in February either.

Dolphins cornerback Will Allen is one of the players expected to be added to the current 495 players scheduled for unrestricted free agency this offseason, whenever this “offseason” really begins.   Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel writes the Dolphins will dump Allen after he missed all of 2010 on injured reserve.

The move is no surprise to put it mildly.  The Dolphins have Vontae Davis and Sean Smith at cornerback, while Allen was due $5.5 million in 2011.   He’s only played six games the last two seasons.

  1. STONE HANDS!!!

you could throw a wet pair of socks at Will Allen and he wouldnt catch it.

thank god the giants got rid of him years ago (and will peterson)

  2. Dolphins fans expected his release last year after his IR stint followed by a DUI…His IR stint this season hasn’t helped

Good thing he’s not a WR then.

“A thin secondary gets thinner’ Thanks, Irleand’.

Seriously dude? Jeff Ireland is getting roasted for this? Didn’t he draft Davis and Smith in the first and second round a couple of years ago? How about Chris Clemons? Jones in the 6th last year? Acquired Bennie Sapp? Bell is still decent. They even chopped Saban’s Jason Allen choice last year because he wasn’t good enough for the team.

Not sure why Jeff Ireland is getting criticized for any of this. Besides wasn’t it Parcells who was pulling the strings the last three years?

  5. dolfan34 – Benny Sapp is garbage. If he wasn’t getting beat (which felt like 99.9% of the time) he got the INT, and he only had 2 of those. That trade sucked. As much as fair weather fans hated Jason Allen, he did end the season with 6 INTs. That’s 3 times as much as our leader (BS). The Dolphins need Will Allen back, and they need he back badly.

It’s not thin…they just need to learn how to catch. There was what, 6-7 easy pick-6s dropped. There are a bunch of young guys that could step up after a year in the league under Nolan. I have no issues (other than the catching issue) with this defense. The missed tackles dropped significantly but could still use some improvement. I would rather keep Allen and cut Sapp…he was garbage. Crowder should be on his way out also and hopefully we draft a fast/smart ILB. Solai did better than expected as NT. Can’t wait to see how Edds does also.
