Darren Perry says he’s ready to be a coordinator

Reuben Frank of CSNPhilly.com recently suggested that the Eagles haven’t hired a defensive coordinator because they’re waiting for a guy whose team is still playing -- Packers safeties coach Darren Perry. Frank even hinted that it’s possibly a done deal.

Perry says that he has yet to interview for any defensive coordinator position, but that he’s ready to take his career to the next level.

I have not interviewed for a defensive coordinator,” Perry told the Virginian-Pilot, with the Philadelphia Daily News. “I’ve been around some great football minds. I’m patiently waiting for my opportunity, knowing that eventually something will come up.”

Perry also said that, if the topic comes up during the week leading up to the Super Bowl, he’ll decline to talk about it.

“I’m not gonna spend a whole lot of time talking about it, because my focus right now is on the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Perry said. “It’s great to be recognized, but really right now, that’ll be something to talk about once we get through this game right here.”

Perry has extensive experience in the 3-4 defense that the Packers and Steelers use. The Eagles run a 4-3 defense, and their personnel is suited to that scheme.
