Debster,

It's not exactly flattery. It's more about notoriety.

Any casual viewer of this site can see anything detrimental said about Pittsburgh....you immediately get your back up. It's just slightly more than mildly annoying. Just a little bit.

You are the Ron Kuby of anything "Steeltown".

The Pam Mackey of all things Roethlisberger.

The fact that you have to absolutely add your two cents about a former player that is several years removed from the situation and anything to do with Pittsburgh....just adds to the rash-like irritation.

So, when two current Steeler players are mentioned in a post, you can count on three things in life: Death, taxes, and your opinion (which is almost always long, drawn out, and quite often, uninteresting.)

I'm reasonably sure I'm not the only one that realizes this.

Perry is still under contract next year with GB. If GB says no other team can speak to him about any position other than head coach, then this here speculation is moot.

BillyJo ( how apt...)

If you are naive to think that tampering doesn't exist among coaches ( as well as players), then keep living in your fantasy world.

GB can say anything they want about talking DIRECTLY to Perry. But there is no rule about talking to his agent. So don't be surprised if contract parameters have been worked out in advance with the Eagles and Perry's agent.

All that would be left is the formal ( which would be just that....a formality) interview with the organization, followed by the (shocker!) hiring announcement of Perry as the Eagles' new defensive coordinator.

Happens all the time.

anonymouslyanonymouscommentor says: Jan 29, 2011 4:55 PM

While the Eagles play the 4-3 currently, they could easily switch to the 3-4. Patterson and Bunkley are of the right mold to play 3-4 DEs and Antonio Dixon could possibly play NT. Trent Cole and Brandon Graham would be great pass rushers on the outside. It’s not that far of a stretch

Dude, what are you SMOKIN' bro?

Trent Cole needs to put his hand on the ground to be effective. Asking him to play the same role as Harrison, Matthews, Ware et al, is a huge mistake. He is a edge rusher that relies on speed around the corner, not the power/quickness combo that all three of the aforementioned players possess. Eagles have no one of this ilk. Not even close.

How do you know that Dixon can handle a double team? Does he compare to Casey Hampton or BJ Raji? You can't even say he's better than Ziggy Hood.

(Cue Deb's babbling dissertation on both Steeler players)

He looked pretty useless vs. Green Bay when he was getting routinely jacked up by Colledge or Wells.

Changing to a 3/4 would be a massive overhaul on the front seven on defense. Given the investment on the DL and LB over the last several seasons (because we know how forward this organization is if they have to admit a mistake, don't we?), we know THAT'S not happening.

You can surmise that management basically said there is nothing wrong with the defensive talent on the team with the dismissal of the coaching staff. That would also mean there would be no change in philosophy either, since it's been in place for 12+ seasons, by the same management that is in place today.

I'm not saying it's right, but clearly this isn't the first time we would have to say this organization is delusional.

You should have filed this story under Steelers as well.
