Bears V.P. Tim McCaskey dies at 65

Tim McCaskey, grandson of Bears founder George Halas (pictured), has died at the age of 65, the team announced on Sunday night.

A team Vice President since 1993, McCaskey was the second oldest of Ed and Virginia McCaskey.  Tim McCaskey battled cancer for 17 months.

“Tim, first and foremost , was a fan — as passionate, loyal, critical, analytical, committed and devoted a Bears fan as there ever was,” the McCaskey family said in a statement. “The tenacity and dignity with which he fought this dreaded disease is an inspiration to all of us.”

His brother, Michael McCaskey, announced in April 2010 that he would retire as CEO of the team upon conclusion of the 2010 season.

Tim McCaskey is survived by his 10 siblings, his four children, eight grandchildren, and his mother.

We send our condolences to McCaskey’s family, friends, and colleagues.
