Report: Eagles targeting someone other than Darren Perry

moss_winston

The name “Darren Perry” became publicly linked to the still-vacant defensive coordinator position in Philadelphia, thanks in large part to Reuben Frank of CSNPhilly.com, who as of Thursday night was “convinced” that Perry is the guy for whom the Eagles are waiting.

Now, Frank throws water on the theory he kick-started, reporting that Perry isn’t the Eagles’ top choice to replace Sean McDermott, who was fired earlier this month.

Citing an unnamed, high-ranking NFL official, Frank reports that Perry is not the mystery candidate whom Eagles coach Andy Reid and G.M. Howie Roseman covet.

The top target isn’t known. Frank has compiled a list of potential candidates from the two teams whose seasons have not yet ended: Packers inside linebackers coach Winston Moss (pictured), Steelers linebackers coach Keith Butler, Packers’ outside linebackers coach Kevin Greene, Steelers secondary coach Ray Horton, and Packers cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt Jr.

Some would add Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau to that mix, even though LeBeau has said he plans to return in 2011, barring an unlikely but not impossible retirement.
