Titans to start interviews Monday

pg2_a_munchak_576

The Titans fired coach Jeff Fisher on Thursday.  On Monday, they’ll begin the process of interviewing his potential replacements.

Adam Schefter of ESPN, who apparently didn’t get the memo in advance of today’s casual-Sunday edition of NFL Countdown, reports that offensive line coach Mike Munchak will interview for the job on Monday.

Other in-house candidates are linebackers coach Dave McGinnis and offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger.

No minority candidate has been identified, yet.  Under the Rooney Rule at least one minority candidate must be interviewed for each head-coaching vacancy.

Though Munchak widely is believed to be the favorite to get the job, several teams have had clear-cut candidates in recent years, but they have been able to secure compliance with the Rooney Rule.

Just interview Art Shell or Denny Green….what’s the problem?

How come they can have a Black Coaches Association but not a White Coaches Association?

Make no mistake, Titans must necesarily go into total rebuild mode. They’ll get it right much sooner if Adams isn’t making football, coaching and player personnel decisions.

The “Rooney rule” seems like affirmative action without enforcement, which is good for nothing.

Why are they interviewing in house?
If fisher was such a problem…why would they keep his staff?

The other rule may not be in writing but woe to any owner who violates it.

I look for Romeo Crennel to interview for the head coaching job, but only if he is taken as a serious candidate and not a token interview. This would be a much better situation than he had in Cleveland and believe he could win in Nashville.

Weren’t Ken Whisenhunt and Russ Grimm favorites for the Steelers job a few years ago. But a minority took the interview and, shockingly, got the job. Mike Tomlin should be the example of why you DO take that interview.
