Maurkice Pouncey arrives in Dallas on canes

Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey arrives on crutches for Super Bowl XLV on their team charter at DFW airport in Dallas.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin refused to rule out center Maurkice Pouncey for the Super Bowl at his Monday press conference, but the signs remain ominous for Pouncey’s chances of playing.

NFL Network’s coverage of the Steelers’ arrival in Dallas showed Pouncey exiting the team flight on canes. He moved extremely gingerly down the plane’s staircase.

Dealing with a high sprain and fracture in his left ankle, Pouncey is listed as “questionable” on the Super Bowl XLV injury report. ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported that he is out for the game, and comments from Ben Roethlisberger seemed to confirm Schefter’s report.

Roethlisberger spoke as if Doug Legursky would start at center against the Packers.

“I just told him he doesn’t have to be Maurkice,” said the Steelers’ quarterback.

Maurkice is Maurkice, you know? Hes a young guy with a lot of passion and hes going to do everything he can to be ready to play Sunday. If he shows hes healed enough to play, he’ll get a hat. If not Doug Leguersky will step up. It doesn’t change our approach to the game. We’ve maintained that mentality all year and it brought us to Dallas. We’re prepared to answer questions on Maurkice, and if you ask him hes going to tell you hes playing, but were gonna leave that up to the men and women who get paid to make those decisions.

Don’t call him Maurkice, but does he “speak of the pompetous of love”?

Legursky doesn’t have to be Maurkice. As long as he doesn’t play like a Doug.

At least you didn’t use a b-roll photo of him blocking some random tackle.

The reason why he isn’t being rulled out is because there is still another week. He may take a shot and be the emergency center and snap only in passing situations.

That’s just coach speak. Will he, won’t he ?…..The Packers will be licking their chops either way!

Of course he is gonna move with caution down the stairs what do you expect?

You make it sound like he was suppose to go all X-games on it and grind down the rails on his crutches.

BJ Raji will eat him up if he tries to play.

And the other guy? No chance.

Man – Pack fan here but it really sucks to see this kid out for the biggest game of his career (to date).

Wish him the best but I won’t cry if Raji gets 3 sacks either.

Gotta ask – is a 60% Pouncey better than a 100% back up?

    @bleedgreen4life …

Terrell Owens went to a Super Bowl? He had a broken ankle?

Oh yeah … now I remember.

Just think … in a few short years maybe we’ll be able to forget him altogether :)

Hey folks….after the injuries suffered by the Packers this season, and now the Steelers…..injuries can no longer be an excuse for losing…….

As a pack fan, I hope your right…

Because Raji would destroy him. No way he can play at a high enough level with a high ankle sprain and a broken foot going against the Freezer.

This hurts the Steelers. Pouncey is better than Legursky in every way. He even does a better “Dougie”.

If you believe the Steelers chances lie with one player, you may wind up licking something else.

Probably because Pouncy’s not an a-hole.

That and the fact he stands to touch the ball on every offensive play, not just 4-6 times.

    Thanks for the heads up.
I had no idea the Packers were so afraid of a rookie.
