Steelers coach Mike Tomlin refused to rule out center Maurkice Pouncey for the Super Bowl at his Monday press conference, but the signs remain ominous for Pouncey’s chances of playing.
NFL Network’s coverage of the Steelers’ arrival in Dallas showed Pouncey exiting the team flight on canes. He moved extremely gingerly down the plane’s staircase.
Dealing with a high sprain and fracture in his left ankle, Pouncey is listed as “questionable” on the Super Bowl XLV injury report. ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported that he is out for the game, and comments from Ben Roethlisberger seemed to confirm Schefter’s report.
Roethlisberger spoke as if Doug Legursky would start at center against the Packers.
“I just told him he doesn’t have to be Maurkice,” said the Steelers’ quarterback.
