In a possible sign of progress in labor negotiations, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL Players Association Executive Director DeMaurice Smith met today in New York, and they agreed to meet again on Saturday in Dallas.

The league and the union put out a joint statement saying that their meeting in New York included discussions on a range of issues related to a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, and that they will meet again Saturday in an effort to “intensify negotiations.”

They’ve also agreed to have a series of formal bargaining sessions over the next few weeks, as well as smaller group meetings.

All of it, the statement said, is an effort to reach a new agreement by early March. Every NFL fan should hope that effort is successful.
