Steve Young wasn’t feeling well after Super Bowl XXIX

Peter King joined PFT Live on Monday, and we talked about various items from his latest Monday Morning Quarterback column at SI.com.

One thing I forgot to ask Peter about was the time that Steve Young puked a quart of red Gatorade onto Leigh Steinberg’s shoes after Super Bowl XXIX.

Peter chronicles the incident in MMQB, which eventually entailed Young being assisted by paramedics, who pumped saline solution into both arms intravenously to combat dehydration. It all happened 16 years ago this past Saturday, after San Fran’s 49-26 romp over the Chargers.

King writes that Young became “borderline angry” when someone in his hotel suite yelled, “Joe who?” in reference to Young’s predecessor of the last name Montana.

“No, don’t do that,” Young said. “Don’t worry about that. That’s the past. Let’s talk about the future.”

The future entailed no further Super Bowl appearances for Young. But also no further vomiting of red Gatorade on the shoes of Leigh Steinberg.

That we know of.
