Nobody thinks Steeler fans should withdraw their sporting allegiance to their team's QB. But for the love of Mike Tomlin, would some of you puleeeze quit playing lawyer claiming the guy was never charged or convicted like he's a victim or something? He bought drinks for underage co-eds, lured one of them into the bathroom and had his off-duty cop pals keep her friends from rescuing her while he shtupped her! And the only reason it wasn't prosecuted is because of the lack of witnesses in the bathroom and his cop friends, who apparently have practiced this little drunken rape game before. Let's not even go into the hostess at the golf tournament, whose job relied on the resort's celebrity-friendly status. This guy is a criminal, and his challenging reaction to Goodell's statement clearly shows he thinks he can push the envelope of his untouchability further. The Rooney family will cut this maggot loose fast if he wants to start laying his unrepenant superstar attitude on Goodell. It's about time someone started cleaning up the National Felons League of lowlife asswipes like Mental Ben. He'd better pay attention and wise up fast.

I see a couple of you have missed me.

JimmySmith and ArtModellsPimp ... let's be clear: I've said many times that Roethlisberger is a jackass who deserved his comeuppance and suspension. Not a Roethlisberger groupie. If we're talking about looks, I prefer Matt Hasselbeck.

But the evidence shows he didn't rape or sexually assault anyone. It seems some women will have sex--or try to have sex--with anyone, even a jackass.

True sexual predators do not clean up their acts. Jackasses can, however. I hope for his sake, that this one has.

neilpountney is absolutely right. It was completely classless and unprofessional for Goodell to speak about his private decisionmaking process regarding Roethlisberger. The man has no ethics at all.

CKL, thank you for your post. I agree with you that sometimes you have players on your team that you may not like, but what can you do? You can't stop cheering for your team. You didn't like Moss, but I'm sure you were happing when he was catching TD passes and your team won games. There is nothing wrong with that.

I think I speak for some Steelers fans here when I say I don't condone Ben's behavior off the field. I don't know what did or didn't happen, but I have some common sense and formed my own personal opinions as to what happened. With that in mind, it will take some time for me to see whether he's changed or just put on a mask for the public.

At the same time I am a Steelers fan and I want my team to win. I support Ben on the field. Seriously, am I supposed to say Ben should play horribly and lose the game so he learns a lesson? I don't think so. I want a 7th championship. To think any fan would purposely root against their team and hope for a loss because they have one player who is a bad person is ridiculous.

My favorite is this whole Ben or Rodgers question being thrown out. the answer is simple to me…without Ben Pittsburgh went 3-1 to start the year…now, without Aaron Rodgers does anyone on here honestly think the Packers win more than 5 games???

I guess you missed it when the Pack came within 4 points of beating the much-vaunted "going all the way because they are invincable" New England Patriots IN New England, with their backup QB.

Nothing like reading ill informed opinions by anonymous know-nothings on these forums. God bless the internet.

I will say that I expected PFT to make sure that there was a BR rape story hashed at Superbowl XLV but to hear Goodell is absolutely amazing. Not only the actual information but the timing of it all just stinks to high heaven. I have to admit that i am a Steelers fan but up to this point, I was not one who believed "the league" had it out for the Steelers but for the Commissioner to share private conversations the week before the biggest game of the NFL year has made me re-think my position.
So now Big Ben will be asked "how does it feel knowing that there are some players on your team that wouldn't go to bat for you with the Commissioner?" .....predictable. NoGood-ell thanks for the edge!

"I’m not buying any of it. Both of these guys, Vick and Roethlisberger are not good people, they would still be either drowning dogs or treating everyone like they are inferior, respectively, had they not been called on the carpet."

I'm not sure I agree with this. You have to run into a brick wall to change sometimes. Only time will tell if either of these guys is different, but to say they have only changed because they got caught...well true, but that is how any of us change. Just like we all eat crap until we have a heart attack...then we change our eating habits, but we'd still be eating the same crap if we didn't have that heart attack (I hope I never do...I need to eat better).

mborz says: Jan 31, 2011 9:10 AM

Roethlisberger is an idiot, we all know that. There’s really not much anyone can say about this guy that would surprise me.

But even more important than that, It’s great that the NFL has a commissioner that engages in this gossipy, “half-off-the-record” type stuff. This is typical of Goodell’s character.

This guy is just what the NFL needs, especially with the upcoming negotiations. Because people really value that kind of behavior.
_________________________________
I'm pretty sure you're a Steelers fan (I'm a Pats fan) and I agree with you about everything you posted. Goodell pisses me off more and more every day. I despise BR but the idea that Goodell says ad nauseum that he holds front office types to a higher standard of behavior then he acts like some 13 year old on Twitter is disgusting. UNLESS GOODELL HAS BEN'S AND HIS TEAMMATE'S PERMISSION TO SAY THIS (and why would they give it?) he has NO BUSINESS saying this stuff.

It's dumb to feel that Steelers fans should turn their backs on their team if they dislike the actions of 1 player. Believe me I have struggled rooting for Randy Moss who I never wanted on the Pats and even Corey Dillon at first. When I heard he was traded I was driving home from work thinking, "What dumb team would trade for THAT headache???" and when they said NE I about drove off the road. But your team is your team.

I think what can be distasteful, at least to me, is Steelers fans waxing poetic about what a good guy he is now after only this short time. I think Ben has a shot to be a tad more sincere than Vick (whose huge ego and lack of true remorse shines through all the time if you listen to him carefully) but we shall see.

Goodell said ... he talked to "I bet two dozen [Steeler] players ... Not one, not a single player, went to his defense. It wasn't personal in a sense, but all kinds of stories like, 'He won't sign my jersey.' ''

Are we to understand that this was the basis of Goodell suspending Roethlisberger? He polled Steeler players? They didn't like him because he hurt their feelings so OK let's go ahead and suspend him? This is shocking and I can't believe the commentary isn't about this admission by Goodell. So if they all had liked him then what?

"I would like to question why Goodell is bringing this stuff up the week of the Super Bowl. Why would he do this? Does he not want Ben to win the Super Bowl this year? Does he want to try to stir things up in the locker room? Very interesting.

It appears Goodell has an agenda here. No question he doesn’t want Ben winning the Super Bowl"

I completely agree.

This quotes do more to make Goodell look bad then Ben. Provides pretty clear proof to anyone looking at the situation objectively, that Goodell is an egotistical madman who makes decisions based solely on how much good PR he's going to get, facts be damned.

Goodell has made it obvious that he wants the Steelers to lose, to serve as a vindication of Good (GB) over "Evil" ( Ben, James harrison, Steerlers front office, etc)

There was no purpose for these quotes to be released now, other than to unnecessarily pile on.
Really, no Steelers went to bat for Ben? I highly, highly doubt it give that he's nicer to his crappy OL than any Qb in the league, (see Manning and how many times he's thrown his OL under the bus).

Hopefully this offseason will be so terrible that Goodell will get pressured into resigning. The guy is scum.

This is one of the reason’s the Steelers’ lose this game, they’re aren’t as unified as in previous years.
--------------------------------

It's quite the opposite from what I have read.

If I read the article correctly, the comments from Steelers players to Godell was in the off season, before the "Change" in Ben.

From the articles I have read this last week the Steelers are quite unified behind Ben. And, IMO, the more this is brought up by the media the more unified the team will be behind the "changed" Reothlisberger.

Just an opinion.

Then again, who knows with Peter King, the guy is such a shameless name-dropper that Goodell may have told him something off the record and P.K. went with it just so that he could proudly announce that he had a conversation with Fuhrer Goodell.

The old “You’re only sorry you got caught” argument. That one infuriated me back when I was a juvenile delinquent.

Remember that Vick and Ben both have teams and the NFL that are supporting and bankrolling this image cleansing. Player, team, and league all stand to gain with a feel-good turned-his-life-around story. As for it being hollow, it’s too early to tell as there have been no reports of Vick murdering puppies or Ben squat thrusting minors in the bathroom.

I love Steelers fans who say they’re not going to turn their back on their team because of one player. That’s kind of like......saying a share holder would not stop supporting their company even if the CEO was allegedly involved in a rape of an underage girl.

I see in this situation what I believe shareholders would do in that analogy....they would stick with the CEO as long as he increases profits (wins). If the CEO didn't, you would hear more calls for his head....just as you would if Roelisberger sucked this year.
