Steelers receiver Hines Ward said at Media Day that he wishes more players would come out in opposition to the 18-game season. Since he can’t make them, Ward was happy to speak his mind Tuesday.

“All money is not good money,” Ward said. “You may get paid more, but all you’re doing is driving more injuries. Leave it like it is. It’s great as it is. . . . Add two more games, those extra checks are not worth it, having more stuff done to you that will affect you later on in life. I don’t want it”

I asked Ward about his strong comments to Michael Silver in GQ about concussions. While he didn’t break out the f-bomb, he didn’t back down.

“They care, but they don’t care. You know this game is a dangerous game. If you care, why would you add two more dangerous games person for a long career in a violent sport. You’re contradicting yourself.”

Ward said that he thought careers would exponentially be shorter with an enhanced season. And then he echoed a point that all fans agree with regarding a possible work stoppage.

“It’s a bad situation. We make way too much money, too much revenue to be in this situation and have a lockout.”
