Hines Ward denies doing Dallas strip club

Dallas Morning News reporter Gromer Jeffers Jr. drew an interesting assignment on Monday night: Hang out in a local strip club to see if any of the NFL players in town for the Super Bowl stop by.

As it turned out, Jeffers wrote a story saying that Hines Ward, Ike Taylor and several other members of the Steelers visited Dallas Gentlemen’s Club, and that a number of other pro athletes were there as well.

Ward, however, says that’s not true.

“Who’d you hear that from? I wasn’t there,” Ward said. “I went out. It’s none of your business where I went.”

The Dallas Morning News has published a transcript of Ward’s comments today at Super Bowl Media Day, but there’s no word on whether the paper stands by its report.

Here’s the video of Ward’s denial:

  1. Nothing wrong with going to a strip club. As long as you stay out of trouble. Hines is a professional and a veteran player. He knows how to behave and what lines can’t be crossed.

  3. Man…that reporter broke the unwritten rule among men. You never snitch on a dude going to a strip club. Not cool dude.

  4. the reporters job is to hang out in a strip club & see IF any NFL players show up? ward is right to tell a reporter, “it’s none of your business,” b/c when this qualifies as “journalisim” the newspapers need to go out of business & die a slow death.

  5. Who cares if they went to a strip club? This is America isn’t it?

If you have a problem with strip clubs, go to Saudi Arabia. I hear life is great there.

Honestly, PFT gets way too high and mighty way too often.

  6. MAYBE, he wanted to see if reports of a “stripper shortage” in the Dallas area during SB week, were exagerated … lets hope this isn’t what’s going to qualify as “news” during SB week

  7. Hines, Next time just own up or dont answer the question. Your response just made you look stupid.

  8. The only reason why this is being made a “story” is because of the alliance of NFL players who are anti-porn.

  9. Why are we even talking about Hines Ward? I’d understand it being a story if it was about Wallace or Sanders, but come on, Hines Ward? What’s next, a Jordy Nelson controversy?

  10. i believe him. he’s obviously been to busy being interviewed to have any time for strippers. can’t wait to hear his thoughts on global warming.

  11. What… wait a minute you mean to tell me that an NFL football player can go to a strip club without someone being murdered, a dog being killed, someone making it rain???

seriously if nothing happened, then its not a story… wonder if this newspaper sent a journalist to the chip n dales as well…. its just as classy…

  12. Its no issue that she went to a strip club, its the simple fact that the b*tch lied about it.

What, was her boyfriend going to get jealous?

    Typical of this classless franchise.

  13. Gromer Jeffers Jr. must be REAL HIGH on the totem pole at the “Dallas Morning News” to get handed such an important assignment ..excellent journalism and undercover work! You should be embarrassed to actually write and report about your assignment! Keep up the good work..this could change the Whole betting lines in Vegas with such insight!

  14. Haha…he was there. It is his right to go there. He is a veteran player and knows what he needs to do during the week to get ready. As long as he is not there getting stupid drunk, causing trouble or missing curfew, I don’t see a problem with it.

I have seen a lot of athletes/celebrities at strip clubs. Funniest sighting was A.C. (“The Virgin”) Green, in Atlanta. He was there with Kevin Willis the night of a Lakers-Hawks game. I talked with them for a while and he kept saying “I’m not AC Green, I play for Georgia Tech”, yet he couldn’t tell me what his name was, and Willis couldn’t stop laughing. Willis called him Bob, then Jim, then Randy…

  15. I can’t believe how much Hines reminds me of a black version of my friend Dustin.

They have very similar facial features, he playfully lies about strip clubs, and if someone isn’t looking, he will hit them right square in the temple.

  16. You have to take what Gromer says with a grain of salt. After all his parents did misspell his name on the birth certificate.

  17. Funny how most of the tired “Ben” and “rape” comments come from the same group – fans of NFC North teams (especially Ravens fans, who you would think would know better regarding name calling, players and criminal accusations), and Patriots fans. It would be too easy to cry “jealousy”, but one has to wonder why these particular groups are so quick to beat that same dead horse.

  18. unless he brought a loaded gun (plaxico) or murdered someone (ray lewis) got a dui manslaughter (leonard little) going to a STRIP CLUB isn’t against the BLEEPING law…

  19. hey thenewenglandpatriots12:

who do you think on the Pats was in charge of making sure Brady didn’t get raped when the Pats went out on the town? I figure if someone approached him he’s turtle up on the ground like he does in the pocket when the pass rush gets within 10ft of the pansie!

    Question: Is the DMN hiring?

  21. I believe he has to wear a tie and blazer to get in that establishment. Any photo evidence

  22. If so many of you think there’s nothing wrong with going to a strip club (including me), why is Ward lying about it?

I’m pretty sure the reporter knew Ward when he saw him, this is a pretty stupid thing to lie about.

  23. Who can blame him for going to a strip club. The bar he used to own in Pittsburgh had some of the doggiest looking women alive hanging out there. It’s about time he looks up some hot women.

  24. Where they go and what they do is their own business and nobody else’s. They are grown men. At least it was a strip club and not a fruit booty bowl or fairy landing pad.

  25. This was incredibly unprofessional on Ward’s part. In light of the NFL’s past strip club incidents (e.g. Pacman Jones,Vince Young, and James Lofton) amidst other Super Bowl distractions (e.g. Barret Robbins and Eugene Robinson) you’d think these players would be more careful with how they spend their time. Especially considering the fact their starting quarterback was accused of a sex crime in the off season.

What the players do on their own time every other week of the year is fine. This week is special and these players disrespected the game.

Anyone saying “Nothing wrong with going to a strip club” ignores reality and the magnitude of this game. These men are professionals and have a responsibility when on the job (they are in Dallas to play football) to represent the organization in a positive manner. They have failed to do so.

  26. sine when is the BBQ restaurant “BONEDADDYS, House of Smoke” a strip club? I mean the chicks are some of the hottest in Texas and the bbq is amazing, but its not a strip club.

If you are there, go to Bonedaddys and see what I mean…its like a hot version of hooters

  27. Gromer, time to look for another job. Your editor must not think much of you if that’s the assignment he dreamt up for you.

Oh, and he’s probably trying to get your ass kicked.

  28. I moved to Dallas once with 40.00 in my pocket.

Since “gentlemens clubs” dot the landscape like 7-11’s, I left with less…….no complaints.

  29. Why is this even a story ? Hes a grown man whos more than paid his dues in the NFL . He didnt rob a bank or murder anyone or throw banana peels in front of the old folks home ! Like it or not , strip bars are part of today’s world just like they’ve been for the past fifty years . Can we please find something newsworthy to write about ?

  30. So if this such a crime of morality, what are the identities of the hundred patrons?

Let me guess sports writers and web bloggers, but that’s not really news…wink wink.

  31. What? Adult men went to a strip club while in town on business? I have never heard of such a thing.

  32. Wow. I wish the other PFT bloggers would have listened to Rosenthal at the beginning of the week, when he said he hopes that this week would be about FOOTBALL, not other issues.

    PFTMZ it is, I guess.

  33. While thousands of all sporting events occur daily, stories like this, pure gossip, degrade the author, and children who read this want to emulate their heroes. You will discover a lot more interesting topics about real sport than rumors/gossip of participants in sports other than the big four. Rugby is a great game with no sissy padding or needing oxygen and rest after a couple of plays. However, Running the 880 yard race [now 800 meters ] took a lot more guts than even rugby or even surfing Wiamea Bay in younger years. If you don’t wise up you will realize a diminishing base now more interested in other sports including X Games. We all screw up in our lives. Stop badmouthing whe someone is down.

  34. This is lame. Should we just give up on PFT having anything to say about football until there’s a contract agreement?

  35. I should hope he denies “doing” the stripe club. That sounds like a lot of work for a guy with a big game ahead.

  36. What a person as a right to do, and what is smart to do, are sometimes two different things.

You’d think that given the increased scrutiny players are under this week, the problems Ben R. has been working to overcome all season and their reflection on the entire organization, and the players’ supposed respect for the family behind the Steelers organization would cause the players to realize that going to a strip club during this week’s media crush might be a bad idea.

    Yoi.

  37. Dallas Morning News reporter Gromer Jeffers Jr. drew an interesting assignment on Monday night: Hang out in a local strip club to see if any of the NFL players in town for the Super Bowl stop by.

What this really means was Gromer (are you kidding me Gromer?) went to a the Dallas strip club that he goes to all the time and he saw some NFL Player… quick get out my paper and pencil.. I have a story.. this story will make my career.. goodbye Dallas.. hello NFL.com

If you have a problem with strip clubs, go to Saudi Arabia. I hear life is great there.

    ——————————

Life is great here in Saudi Arabia but we are lacking in strip clubs; drugs, guns, alcohol and pilot schools – we have plenty as long as you know where to look…

  39. Did you ever stop to think that maybe these professional athletes prefer to give their child support money in the form of $1 bills?

Baby, they’re in Dallas, not New York City. Not only can he bring a loaded gun–he can wear it in a holster!

  41. Steelers are all losers and perverts, (with the exception of polamalu, mendenhall and Wallace. I really hope this franchise that has lost it’s class in recent years doesn’t get another undeserved Lombardi.

  42. You know I told my wife I went to the strip club to make sure my friends didn’t do anything stupid. She didn’t buy it go figure!

  43. So the Dallas Morning News now has reporters staking out strip clubs hoping to spot celebrities. My … how TMZ. Journalism standards have hit a new low.

    @richm2256 …

Why lie about it? Maybe it wasn’t him. If Gromer were the brightest guy on staff, he wouldn’t have drawn that assignment. Maybe he doesn’t like the press knowing his every move. Or maybe he has a woman in his life who wouldn’t think there was nothing wrong with it 😉

    My nominee for best comment.

If people are looking for news, this is a rumour and reporting site. “Latest News And Rumors”. I didn’t read anything in the story that said he was wrong or a degenerate, just a question and amusing answer. Super Bowl week is, has been and always will be been chock full of this sort of story. They report everything they can find.

I have already sent my resume to the Indianapolis Star, News and Recorder for next year.

  45. Dallas Morning News reporter Gromer Jeffers Jr….

Why would you read any further??

You have an entire media day to sift through and this is what you come up with?? That is some hard core journalism.

    Hines Ward = Eugene Robinson
    ——————————————————
You can not be serious. Ward went to a strip club with other players during the week. No trouble reported. Robinson was awarded a Christian Athlete Award (from Athletes In Action) the day/night before his Super Bowl, got hammered afterwards and propositioned an undercover female officer. Got arrested and spent most of the night in jail, got burned a few times to help lose the game.
Do not equate the two situations. It is not even in the same ball park. Who knows how Ward will play on Sunday but it will not be a result of him going to a Strip Club 6 nights before the game and getting in no trouble.

  47. Ok, how did this newspaper write pull this scam off?

    “what’s my assignment?”

“We want you to go to a strip club and see if you meet any NFL players.”

    Talk about genius.

  48. The day grown men stop being interested in seeing women naked is the day the world ends.

PFT, where the dogs of society howl.

‘Get a story or you’re fired!’

  50. It’s been said a few times but I’d like to say it again…. who the hell cares? If the man wants to go to a strip club he can. As long as he isn’t punching people (Vince Young) or getting people paralyzed (Adam Jones) who gives a rats tail what they do?

Absolutely right. Notice the timing of the allegation following the anti-porn Sunday story?

  52. another Steeler performing a completely legal act and getting persucuted for it. This is not news.

polamalusboyfriend….your are Hines’ bitch. btw…he loved your sister’s dance!

  53. i personally hate this man and hope they get CRUSHED in the SB, it’s sad, but i like Big Ben WAY MORE than this d-bag, don’t get me wrong, he’s a good player, but he’s disrespectful (making fun of Ed Reed and his missing brother on National TV) and he is known as one of the dirtiest players in the league, i’d like to pull each of his shiny white teeth out one by one, he purposely starts fights and throws cheap shots and trys to end peoples careers, you don’t eph with someones livelihood, i’ve watched him get threatened many times after plays by defensive players for trying to injure them purposely, forget you Hines, i hope the Packers finally wipe that stupid grin off your face this sunday!

  54. “I have a story.. this story will make my career.. goodbye Dallas.. hello NFL.com”

I think you meant “Hello Profootballtalk.com”

  55. PFT just lost many points. Why would you report this crap?

    You have become so lame.

What about injuries, strategy, trends in play calling, one on one battles, etc?

No, you are competing with AOL, MSNBC, CNN, TMZ and all the other garbage regurgitating entities that really do nothing but spread innuendos and try to embarrass people to get web hits.

What a lame way of life you have undertaken.

What is next? “Wheeew, I saw Aaron Rogers talking to the hotel clerk for over a minute..ewww, I am telling!!!!!!!!”

  56. would have been hilarious if raplisberger went to a strip club and committed a felony to miss the SB. what a dope this guy is….only in pittsburgh does this crap happen…LMFAO.

  57. Ya know, when you think about it, this is huge news. I really have never heard of NFL players in strip clubs, and come to think of it, NBA, MLB, or NHL.

    Really odd………sure this is true?

From what I have heard, all the married players are in bed around 10 (alone), and the single guys are playing board games and telling jokes.

Nah, this can’t have any roots of truth.

  58. If any player was there don’t you think a reporter has the brains to take a picture with there phone. This is nothing but jealous Dallas Fans trying to create distractions.

  59. I travel to Dallas on business and anytime I am there I always stop in at the Lodge
Two things said about Texas that are true
The women are outstanding and the men are dumb as bricks

You got to figure Pitt and Greenbay not the fine women capital of the world so not hitting a dallas club is stupid
And if they did it Monday night 6 days prior to the game what does it matter?

Pac Man was not there so who cares

  60. I love and hate this blog. This article is beyond stupid, but even worse is the fact that a news source would send a “journalist” to a strip club to see if any NFL players show up. Laughable.

  61. @Tk1966

So there are two teams from the NFC in the superbowl? And both from the North divisions? And let me guess… For the winning play, rodgers will pass the ball to jennings, who will hit a home run to score the winning basket, all the while getting cross checked? I would say thats a typo, but the “n” and the “a” are no where near each other on the keyboard. PITT PRIDE!!! Lol

  62. Newspapers are struggling while sites like TMZ are thriving, so I’m not surprised that the paper sent someone in for this “story.” The fact of the matter is that there are all types of stories being written this week that have nothing to do with the action on the field. This is one of them. No one is obligated to read it.

There’s also the fact that dudes like gossip just as much as women. Don’t believe me? Look at the content of some of the comments and the overall number of them. lol

  65. Censored again! We should run a contest to see who gets censored most often!

    @boysroll …

You actually think NFL players going to bars and strip clubs and getting into problems happens only in Pittsburgh??? And you are calling Roethlisberger stupid??? Omigosh … that is the nuttiest thing I’ve ever read on PFT. Dude, where have you been for the last umpteen years? In fifth grade reading only Highlights and National Geographic Explorer? 😆

    Are you kidding?

Asking a low life Ravens Fan who made something up about Ward saying something he never said even knowing how to link a source….
Better chance the Ravens actually beat the Steelers in a playoff game instead of getting their annual beating!

I find raven4life21 a funny name as it is. The ravens have not even been around your entire life so how can you be Raven4life21? Poor disgruntled Skins fan that jumped ship I’m guessing… lots of ravens fans are that way.

SO back to making up $hit that was never said for you raven4life21. Plenty of time now that Hines and the Steelers put your boyz out of the playoffs again!

Also, pretty good piece on espn where Hines actually PRAISED Ed Reed for being one of the BEST and said he had nothing but respect for him.

  69. I don’t really like the Steelers, but really, a story about a grown up man going to a strip club? What the heck is wrong with that Dallas “newspaper”? If any of the Steelers or Packers want to contribute to the local economy that’s none of our business unless they cause problems. They behaved themselves well so there should be no story.

PS, that reporter was the envy of his fellow “journalists”. Getting paid to go to a strip club? Sign me up!
