Hines Ward wants Plaxico Burress back

Several years ago, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said that he’d like to add a tall receiver to his arsenal of targets.  Receiver Hines Ward didn’t appreciate the remark.

I don’t hear Tom Brady or Peyton Manning asking for that,” Ward said at the time.  “I don’t buy into height.  Look at my red-zone touchdowns.  I have as many as anyone in the league.”

Now, look who’s asking for a tall receiver.

According to Gary Myers of the New York Daily News (via Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News), Ward said Tuesday that he wants the Steelers to sign Plaxico Burress once he is released from jail.

Burress was drafted by the Steelers in 2000.  He signed with the Giants in 2005.

  7. stinkfingers says: Feb 1, 2011 4:39 PM

Why not? Pittsburgh already has a roster full of dirtbags. He’d fit right in.

    More crap on the Steelers.
Your going tabloid on us and losing cred.
    HELLO !
Where in this story did you “quote him” as saying Burris?
You people are going to get sued someday and lose.

Plax will be 34 when the 2011 season starts (if that’s when he’ll be eligible to play again). Considering that it took Mike Vick a whole year to get back into football shape (at a younger age), I think the odds are against a wide receiver regaining his elite skills at that age, after being out of the game for 2 or 3 years.
But no doubt he’ll try to do just that, if some team is willing to give him a chance.

No thanks, were all set at WR.

  13. cityofchampyinz says: Feb 1, 2011 4:52 PM

Hines is milking this one hahahahah

Ward is a tough guy … when you have your back to him…

  15. hotep999 says: Feb 1, 2011 4:55 PM

So somebody, told somebody, that Hines Ward wants a tall receiver and you all thrash Hines like he really said that after being quoted “I don’t buy into height”. What a story!

  16. tpkaufma says: Feb 1, 2011 5:01 PM

Heinz Ward is soon to retire and is just looking out for the Steeler receiving corp. Thank goodness the Steelers don’t hire stupid convicted criminals… Hey, anyone can be the Eagles!!

  17. gbfanforever says: Feb 1, 2011 5:14 PM

Apparently he doesn’t think the other receivers on his team are good enough. That’s building unity.

    On a side note

    “Wines Hard” Lol!

  18. jebdamone says: Feb 1, 2011 5:34 PM

i don’t see this happening with sanders and wallace starting to make big plays and become quality receivers. i would love to see plax come back and have a few more solid years though.

on a side note, haven’t mentioned it yet, but i love the new ‘thumbs up, thumbs down’ feature on the site. would also really like a ‘reply’ button so people could correspond with each other more fluidly.

  19. skeebo80 says: Feb 1, 2011 5:53 PM

Everybody knows Pittsburgh is one of those teams that doesn’t pay well and with Plaxico time running short that doesn’t bode well anyway.

@bigdawg24…. keep hating.. let me guess your a cleveland clown fan.. bet you don’t have the cajones to talk trash to his face…

FINE Burress can replace Ward then cause Ive been sick of Hines big fat mouth for at least the past 4 years. Hes not the good guy TV announcers tried to make him out as. Hes a really good but filthy dirty player.

  22. jw731 says: Feb 1, 2011 6:45 PM

    Ward also wants….
baby seals not to be slaughtered…
    renewable energy…
OJ to find the real killer..
    Less global warming..
    Free downloadable songs…
    No more rioting in Egypt..
    More extensions of unemployment benefits..
    Less WikiLeaks publicity..
A really good turkey and swiss on rye…
    Less delays at airports…
    Beyonce to make more videos…
Cell phones that don’t drop calls…
Fewer people in rush hour traffic…

Just ask his opinion on anything, he never shuts the hell up…..

  23. silentparrot says: Feb 1, 2011 6:53 PM

I agree. The thumbs up/down is killer. I’d love to be able to look at all the comments by any given commenter. I have a feeling you’d see a lot of dudes who only say:

    “go ‘boys”
    “this site is bush league”

    expose the trolls!

  24. smootysmoot says: Feb 1, 2011 7:08 PM

I really can’t stand this guy. He may wanna watch what he wishes for because any competition at receiver would be bad for him. Retire and STFU.

  25. moosewolsey says: Feb 1, 2011 7:12 PM

Would Plax be the ‘common sense’ guy or would Big Ben when they walk into a club together?

  26. tdbragg says: Feb 1, 2011 7:41 PM

After getting rid of one dirt bag , named Santonio Holmes , do you really think theyre going to bring back a bum like Plaxico Burress ? Not gonna happen !

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++The stupid (non helmet wearing) non convicted criminal (rapist) is the much better choice. Hey high and mighty, who would you rather see at your door to date your daughter?

  28. cintiphil says: Feb 1, 2011 10:53 PM

He will play for someone, IF he still has it and can contribute to winning, just like Vick did.

  29. nflunbiased says: Feb 1, 2011 11:13 PM

Is it obvious what Hines and Sarah Palin have in common?

Put a sock in it! Or with Sarah something else…

  30. laxer37 says: Feb 1, 2011 11:57 PM

    No chance.

Besides, there’s no room for the guy on a team with Ward and three of the most talanted young WR’s in the game.
