Ravens lock up another specialist

The Baltimore Sun reports that the Ravens have agreed to a new five-year contract with punter Sam Koch, bringing him under contract through the 2015 season.

Koch, 28, played the 2010 season on a one-year, $1.759 million restricted free agent tender. The new deal will likely be similar to last week’s signed by placekicker Billy Cundiff. Cundiff’s is worth roughly $15 million over five years.

A former sixth-round pick out of Nebraska, Koch ranked second in the NFL with 39 regular season punts landing inside the opposing 20-yard line.

He’s first in franchise history in gross punting average (43.7) and net average (38.1).

I don’t know where that opinion is coming from, but I met Sam Koch at Ravens training camp in Westminster, MD last summer and he was very nice and approachable.

“Too bad he is a giant a-hole.”

@chuckbednarik where are you getting that from? from what i can tell he seems like the typical punter/kicker…normal white guy.

Not a bad gig if you can get it.

I still would take the kicker from Cleveland over any of them, especially the way Dawson kicks in snowy, windy, and cold weather. If the Browns don’t sign him, he will have a lot of teams after him. Boo-hoo, Browns.

really? how so? i’ve never heard any one say that. Don’t say something stupid like that and not even explain.

If godell suspends him, u think he’ll sue to stay on the field and keep putting in appeals?

Ravens must be planning on doing a lot of punting over the next five seasons.

I gotta admit, that’s pretty funny.

    funny right there.

As a combo Cundiff/Koch are number one or two in the league. One less thing to worrie about … now we jut need to get a new catch and control coach for our wide receivers….
