No, I would argue that Peterson is the best or perhaps 2nd best RB in football. My point was that if losing a RB with Grant's 2009 stats is no big deal, then would you say the same thing about losing AP? Of course not, yet their stats were very similar in 2009. So don't say losing a back who has gained 1200 yards in 2 consecutive yrs is no big deal. 1200 yds rushing on a team with the passing game of the Packers is a big deal and a big loss.

Actually, the O-line award was presented to Koppen, Connolly and LeVoir down in Dallas. That award made it there. Does that count?

I hear you, man, but considering the weather in Dallas right now, Hawaii's lookin pretty good!

And Brady's prolly in Brazil with his hot wife. I'm sure he's doin fine considering.

Enjoy the game. I'm not rooting for the Steelers, but don't care really if they win. I am NOT a vindictive Pats fan. Have fun.

@ packa7x

I went through NEs injury situation earlier, so cry me a river. Matt Flynn did torch the NE defense, but so did just about everyone else. That's why the Pats D was ranked 30th against the pass (25th overall). Yet, they were STILL 14-2 and beat your Packers. Almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. I hope you're not counting on "almost" winning on Sunday.

So many of the comments about the Patriot's being expected to make the playoffs and win the SB are a testament to the team. For all of you who just assume every year that the Pats will make the playoffs and probably the SB, thanks! You obviously didn't pay attention to the preseason hype, or actually watch any of the off season and preseason developments. Every major media outlet picked this to be the year the Patriots crashed and burned. EXPN projected the Jets to win the divison and the Dolphins to challenge them for it. I saw projections of 7-8 to 10-6 (but behind a 12-4 Jets). Why? Because the Jets were the powerhouse with all the big name acquisitions and riding the previous season momentum. Because the Patriots were starting the season with a recovering Wes Welker, a declining Randy Moss, a miserable Lawrence Maroney, a distracted Tom Brady, a hold-out pro-bowl guard, questions about who would play either Tackle position, two rookies and a has-been at TE, no pass rush and the youngest defense in the history of Belichick coaching. In short, this was a rebuilding year. If you expected the team to make the playoffs, you weren't paying attention.

BB took that and molded into a powerful team that faced one of the tougher schedules in the league, lost several pro-bowl players, jettisoned several veterans and quietly turned into the best team in the league. Did they do well in the playoffs? Of course not (all the problems that led to predictions of 7-9 were more glaring). But, for this award that doesn't matter: it's only for the regular season.

Morris did an amazing job exceeding expectations and deserves some credit for it. Frankly, Tomlin accomplished a similar feat with similar difficulties - although not as dramatic as most Steeler's fans would claim. McCarthy frankly did the best job of any of these guys, although he started with the most talent. So many of those losses were by so little that the team could easily have been undefeated. That said, they were losses, and in close games like that, it's the coaching that makes the difference. All three coaches did amazing work this year could easily have been the COTY.

The problem is that each voter gets one vote for who they think is the best. That means that each vote was for the coach the voter thought was best. Many probably struggled to decide with so many options. The fact that none of them put McCarthy at the top doesn't mean no respect. For all we know, all 50 voters struggled between him and the guy they eventually voted for, thinking he was 2nd best by a hair. I can hardly blame most of the votes. I am surprised that anyone thought Andy Reed was the best. I'd put him below BB, McCarthy, Tomlin, Morris, Haley, Mike Smith, Lovie Smith, and Steve Spagnuolo (probably in that order). The only way I'd have considered Reed is if he could have picked one QB and stuck with him. He really doesn't deserve any credit for what Vick did this year.

Haha you guys are so freaking quick to just ignore anything about McCarthyand crown BB.

-15 guys on IR including Barnett (one of the better MLBs), Grant (teams top RB), Tauscher, Mike Neal (promising rookie who would have kept a fresh rotation on the DL), Brad Jones, Brady Poppinga...both force the packers to lose depth on ST, Brandon Chillar (best cover LB on the team), Morgan Burnett (who was the teams starting S and was playing very well)

-on top of that, the Packers had Al Harris, Atari Bigby and James Starks on the PUP list to start the year...all3 missed at least 6 games. Al Harris couldn't get healthy and the Pack let him go.

-DT Johnny Jolly also suspended for the year, if anyone he is like "oh noooo poor packers who's Johnny Jolly" he's probably our 2nd best DL behind Raji...guy had a tremendous number of batted balls at the line last year

-Everyone goes WAHHHH OF COURSE YOU GUYS CAN WIN WITH RODGERS AND THOSE WRS!!! But what about the running game?? Teams played the Pack as a pass first team, Rodgers still beat them.

-here's the biggest one...in the REGULAR SEASON, BACKUP qb Matt Flynn ALMOST BEAT THE PATRIOTS. He TORCHED you D. Woodson dropped a would-have-been INT that would have ended Bradys streak. Had it not been for Flynns inexperience, the GREATEST COACH EVER TO LIVE would have been 13-3, not 14-2 off the hands of Rex Ryan and Eric Mangini (2 of his former coaches) and Matt freaking Flynn a former 7th round pick backup.

-most impressive of all...the Packers NEVER trailed by more than 7 at any point in any game and finished the season with all 6 losses coming by a total of 20 points. The Packers were IN every game despite serious injuries.

Now you can make a case for a lot of guys(personally, I think Raheem Morris should have been COTY) but for McCarthy to not get ONE. VOTE. That's a crime.

Also, as far as Pats injuries/missed games, Logan Mankins (starter) missed 7 games. Stephen Neal missed most of the season. Nick Kaczur, although Vollmer was better, was slated to be the starter at Guard for Mankins. He went on IR. That's both starting guards and one backup, who was going to start, out for most of the year. That's 40% of the OL.

Also, Fred Taylor missed most of the year. Granted no one really thought he'd do much, but he was the starting RB to open the season. Instead, the running attack was provided by TWO undrafted players (Green-Ellis and Woodhead--a player picked up during the season).

The Pats also started 2 rookie TEs, a converted QB at WR, had a starting WR coming back from major knee surgery who was clearly not at 100%.

People, you must understand these awards! These are REGULAR SEASON AWARDS. The playoffs have NOTHING to do with the voting. The voting is done BEFORE the playoffs start. So, STOP bringing up a team's playoff performance. It doesn't matter with regards to these awards!

Arguments can certainly be made for other coaches. However, stop using playoff success as justification for your guy. To those Steeler fans who say the Steelers were picked to finish 3rd in their division. The Pats were picked to finish 2nd or 3rd as well. Not many had the Pats winning 12 games before the season. Instead, they finish with the best record in the league. They had season ending injuries to key players--mostly on defense (Bodden, Warren, Wright, Pryor, Brace, Wilhite). The defense started many rookies (McCourty, Deadrick, Love, Arrington, Spikes). They plug in a Division 2 castaway (Woodhead) for another injured stalwart (Faulk). They trade Moss and acquire Branch, thereby changing the offensive philosophy midstream. It was a BRILLIANT coaching job by Belichick.

Tomlin and McCarthy may be in the discussion, but Tomlin got the 2 seed and got trounced by Belichick in the REGULAR SEASON. McCarthy got the 6th seed in the supposedly weaker NFC--SIXTH--for a team that many considered a favorite before the season. Oh, and Belichick beat them too.

The one thing I'll agree with you on is that Tomlin should have at least gotten a vote. AND, I'm sure Belichick would trade the award for playing in Sunday's game.

In making your arguments, just remember it's a regular season award, folks. That's all.

Who is Grant overrated by? Surely not the Pro Bowl voters. Compare his 2009 season to Adrian Peterson and tell me who is the overrated one?

2009 Statistics for Ryan Grant
1253 yds rushing
4.4 yds/carry
11 TD’s
1 fumbles

2009 Statistics for Adrian Peterson
1383 yds rushing
4.4 yds/carry
18 TD’s
6 fumbles

-----------------------------------------------

Are you really trying to compare one year of Ryan Grant's to Adrian Peterson and calling Adrian Peterson overrated.

Let's see in 4 years Adrian Peterson
5,782 yds 4.8 ypc
52 Tds

in 5 years
Ryan Grant
3,457 yds 4.4 ypc
23 tds

Also for all the Steeler fans complaining about Tomlin losing his starting QB for the first 4 games. You can thank the defensive mastermind Dick Lebeau for that one. It had nothing to do with Tomlin. 21 yards passing and you get a W in one of those games. Without that defense and Lebeau you lose the first four games and many others along the way. The guy is a genious.

You try putting in a rookie at RT for a veteran who saved your 2009 season (Tauscher) and take the LB who makes your defensive calls (Barnett) out of your lineup and see if it doesn't have an effect.

<<<I>>>

Nice job contradicting yourself, since they did lose Matthews (1 game missed) and Rodgers (1.5 games) for a period of time and still made the playoffs. Matthews actually was unable to practice for over a month while battling his injury to boot.

Lastly, I don't care who you lose, losing that many "replaceable" players becomes a challenge no matter how good they are.

To the people lauding Haley for COTY saying HE made Cassel great and yet whining about the Pats being cheaters...I am quickly losing hope for humanity with powers of "reason" like that.

I hope you aren't Chiefs fans or you would realize Haley didn't win crap until he got the Pats "CHEATINGOMGZSPYGATE" aided coordinators. And Cassel was first developed by yet another "CHEATINGOMGZSPYGATE" era coordinator also.
BB must have some hellafied cameras!
Coaching wise, losing Charlie and Romeo at the same time was more to blame for the Pats slide starting in 05 the year they left, than losing cameras which even former Jets employee Goodell refused to admit gave the Pats any competitive advantage.

McCarthy does have a case for the regular season award for sure. Most teams that lose that many players to IR have a losing record.

Some people need to get off their high horse and recognize great talent when they see it instead of trying to pick apart the best out there. What’s in the past is in the past, and realize that Brady is a great QB and BB is an amazing coach! Yeah we didn’t make it to the super bowl and it sucks, but winning these awards only means one thing, that next year it is on! Our team will be bigger and better, as we are every year
-----------------------------------------------
So you're bigger and better every year, but you haven't won a title since the 2004 season? There must be some really big teams out there then.

thereisnoiinteam:
Come on man, don’t be ridiculous. Here is who the Packers lost: Starting Middle LB Nick Barnett (calls the plays), starting OLB Brad Jones, budding superstar TE Jermichael Finley, starting RT Mark Tauscher, starting RB Ryan Grant on IR from week 1, starting S Atari Bigby, starting DT Cullen Jenkins missed 4 games, DT BJ Raji missed 2 games, replacement S Morgan Burnett on IR, and don’t forget QB Aaron Rodgers for over 1.5 games and LB Clay Matthews for 1 game and he didn’t practice due to a leg injury for almost 2 months.

180 games lost to injury. This doesn’t even include starting starting DT Johnny Jolly or CB Al Harris who didn’t play a down all year.

He had one of the worst Special Teams until the end of the year as well. He and his staff did a remarkable job putting together all of the rejected players and practice squad guys Ted Thompson picked up.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Only key player they lost for a significant amount of time during the season was Finley. Grant is overrated, losing Tauscher was a blessing. Nick Barnett is not a key player.

You lost your KEY players Clay Matthews for one game and AROD for 1.5 games AND FUNNY, YOU LOST ALL OF THOSE GAMES. THAT's IT. Everyone else is irreplaceable, period.

You may like to hang onto this injury stuff because it's a cute story, but it's simply a falsehood.

I repeat if if they lost one of the following: Woodson, T. Williams, Mattews, Rodgers or Jennings for any period of time, they wouldn’t have made the playoffs.

Then the post season starts and the decide to stop "cheating"

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Great coach yes- Coach of the year NO. Greenbays coach should have taken that title. 15 starters out, 6 game road win. Something is certainly flawed with this choice system. He sure didnt look like coach of the year against the jets and brady certainly didnt look all pro in that game. McCarthy got robbed. I know you guys got buried with snow in Newengland. Get the hot toddy readry lite a fire and enjoy the superbowl. You will see some great coaching sunday. I hope belechick is watching the game with his trophy and brady is getting some pointers

sorry people, how does a coach who is not in the Superbowl win coach of the year? I think either both McCarty or Tomlin. look at what they both had to deal with. major injuries and they made it to the big dance.

Some people need to get off their high horse and recognize great talent when they see it instead of trying to pick apart the best out there. What's in the past is in the past, and realize that Brady is a great QB and BB is an amazing coach! Yeah we didn't make it to the super bowl and it sucks, but winning these awards only means one thing, that next year it is on! Our team will be bigger and better, as we are every year. I'm happy we got rid of Moss, bc of his poor whinny attitude, and that's not what our team is about. And for all of you that are obsessing over the whole spy-gate scenario, get over it all ready. BB got caught, but you know that there were/are other coaches out there doing that and haven't gotten caught, and besides, that was many years ago for us and we have obviously gotten over that. AND SERIOUSLY, KEEP HATING ON THE FACT THAT THE PATS HAVE THE BEST COACH AND QB IN THE LEAGUE AND FIND ANYTHING YOU CAN TO MAKE FUN OF THEM AND CUT THEM DOWN, US PATS FANS LOVE THAT YOU HUMOR US WITH YOUR STUPIDITY :D

I Respect the hell out of belichek but….how many titles without the assistance of a camcorder

How can people on this site who claim to know about football still use this as an arguement. They were taping DEFENSIVE SIGNALS that everyone could see. OUT IN THE OPEN. Yes they shouldnt have done it because Godell sent the memo. Why did Godell send a memo to the entire league? Because just the Patriots were doing it? Are you all that naive?

By taping, its basically asking a coach to do his JOB and mix up signals, coach your team better. Sorry if youre dumb enough to let your signals be decoded. Just like trying to steal signs in baseball.

It never ceases to amaze me how retarded most of the people on this site are?

You get up on a high horse screaming that the Patriots lost in the playoffs, when the vote took place before the playoffs started. If you want to argue it should take place after the playoffs then argue that. Dont spout off about something that is completely irrelevant, it makes you look like a complete moron who cant read.

The Patriots lost multiple important starts including 2 on defense. A lot of you would like to make jokes about a kicker, but it severely affected the field position game especially in the playoffs. Hey steeler fans, the Pats lost a starting tackle too. The Pats had 22 undrafted players, and multiple 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year players in key positions and they were coached to go 14-2.

I love seeing all the posts that the Pats were favored and "supposed" to go 12-4. You're all a bunch of liars. All anyone did on this site was talk about how the run is over and this team was going back to mediocrity especially after the Moss trade. Grow up and look at things objectively you idiots.

These awards are like Beauty Contests, the subjectivity of who wins is tough to figure out at times.

At least Rex Ryan can take solace in the fact that he outcoached the "Coach of the Year" in the playoffs and sent him home with the tag, one and done as well as going 2-1 over the season.

So congrats are in order......to Rex Ryan and the NY Jets.
