FedEx announced its individual player awards in Dallas Wednesday, naming Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles as its FedEx Ground Player of the Year and Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers as the FedEx Air Player of the Year.
2009 winners were Chris Johnson of the Tennessee Titans, and Drew Brees of the Saints.
The awards are based on fan voting.
Rodgers missed one regular season game and lost out to Tom Brady for Offensive Player of the Year, but Green Bay fans tend to come out in droves. Rodgers is certainly not undeserving of the recognition, having led the Packers to a Super Bowl berth while racking up a 23:5 touchdown-to-turnover ratio in his last 11 games.
Rodgers’ career postseason touchdown-to-turnover ratio is 13:3, and he’s engineered three straight playoff wins by a combined margin of 90-51.
Charles had a season for the ages, but still seems underrated. More accurately, he was underutilized in Kansas City, averaging a league-high 6.38 yards per carry but only getting 230 rushing attempts. Thomas Jones started over Charles for the majority of the season, and finished with 15 more carries despite a lousy 3.66 yards-per-attempt average.
