Revis lobbies for Antonio Cromartie’s return

Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis’ bookend, Antonio Cromartie, is slated for unrestricted (most likely) free agency this offseason.

Revis is hopeful the Jets re-sign Cromartie, and made that clear in a Thursday interview with ESPNNewYork.com’s Rich Cimini.

“It will be very important, we need him,” said Revis, who signed a four-year, $46 million contract last September. “(Cromartie) has made a lot of plays for us. … He’s a great corner.”

Jets G.M. Mike Tannenbaum said last week that Cromartie “had a good year for us on the field,” perhaps hinting he wasn’t happy with the cornerback calling Tom Brady an “assh-le” prior to the playoffs’ divisional round, saying the same of the NFLPA and NFL owners, and later physically threatening Matt Hasselbeck on Twitter.

While Cromartie had one of his better seasons as a cover corner in 2010, he may not have capitalized enough on playing across from Revis. Offenses rarely target the Jets’ shutdown cornerback, so the Jets were hoping Cromartie would become a big-play specialist in the opposite side.

Cromartie accounted for four turnovers in 15 starts.

    1) Still no Super Bowls since 1969

    2) Revis may now be pregnant

Rex loves Cromartie’s footwork, so it should be an easy sell.

I hate when people call them the best cb duo in the league. cromartie just a solid corner but not great. i think that honor goes to leon hall and jonathan joseph (struggled with injuries this year but were a dominant duo in 2009)

He just needs someone to take up the slack for his over-rated arse

Revis loves him because no team will through his way when they can pick on Cromartie.

They may not be the BEST cornerback tandum, they are however one of the best in the league. With that said it obviously was not enough to get to the BIG GAME. I just hope that we do re-sign enough guys to continue to be relevant in the AFC next year.

Translation: Please don’t sign Nnamdi because then I might get exposed.

Haha. Revis better hope they re-sign Cro if he wants to keep up the illusion that he is a shut down corner.

Have you ever watched Revis play? Dude is better than Nnamdi.

Revis must be concerned Cromartie is going to come up to him and pretend like he is going to hit him and then back off and then fall down.

  19. SpaceJam says: Feb 4, 2011 3:23 AM

Revis is better than Nnamdi. Cromartie is nowhere near either. That said, still the best CB tandem, almost by default. Not a whole lot of stellar 1-2 punches out there.

    @neverend1

Hall and Joseph, really? And why are you saying in 2009? The 2010 season has now been played..

  21. jacksaysfu says: Feb 4, 2011 9:00 AM

    Revis is the shut down
    best corner ,
But nnamdi is a close 2nd . Pair him with the interception ball hawk samuel and the eagles will have the best DBs in the game.

Yeah, he looked like HOF material when Randy Moss burned him for that one handed TD grab! Oh, wait, I forgot. He mysteriously pulled up “lame” as soon as he realized Moss had scored and made him look like an ass. And after the “amazing” year Randy had, well, just think of how many DBs Moss burned this year.

I’m sure that statement is fair and without bias. ;)

Anyways, the way I see it, if by some small miracle this dream secondary became a reality, at some point one of them might get exposed as QB’s would just have to man up and start testing them more.

Both are great players that I’d like to see QB’s test more.

    “the interception ball hawk samuel”

yup what an interception machine…remember that pick he made to ensure the patriots superbowl win agains the giants.

Clearly you have never seen a Jets game with a ridiculous comment like this. I guess you missed the playoffs this season too. Check his stats moron. He must be a sick magician to create an illusion like this.
