Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis’ bookend, Antonio Cromartie, is slated for unrestricted (most likely) free agency this offseason.
Revis is hopeful the Jets re-sign Cromartie, and made that clear in a Thursday interview with ESPNNewYork.com’s Rich Cimini.
Jets G.M. Mike Tannenbaum said last week that Cromartie “had a good year for us on the field,” perhaps hinting he wasn’t happy with the cornerback calling Tom Brady an “assh-le” prior to the playoffs’ divisional round, saying the same of the NFLPA and NFL owners, and later physically threatening Matt Hasselbeck on Twitter.
While Cromartie had one of his better seasons as a cover corner in 2010, he may not have capitalized enough on playing across from Revis. Offenses rarely target the Jets’ shutdown cornerback, so the Jets were hoping Cromartie would become a big-play specialist in the opposite side.
Cromartie accounted for four turnovers in 15 starts.
