Schefter makes his Super Bowl pick

Our friend Adam Schefter of ESPN visited the set of ProFootballTalk Live this week for a bonus segment of the weekday show.

During the segment, we each talked about our Super Bowl picks and our complete lack of faith and conviction in those predictions.

We’ll get the full interview posted as soon as possible.  Until then, here’s a rare glimpse of Schefty on a non-ESPN platform.  If he gets fired, NBC can hire him.  Probably after firing me.

  1. In less than 24 hrs the beginning of the end will take place. For 2 weeks I sat back and watched all these analysts sell Green Bay to the world. Green Bay this and Green Bay that. Tomorrow, everyone comes back to reality. I know what everyone is hoping and praying for. Can someone please stop these big, bad Steelers from winning their 7th but it wont happen!! Steelers 34 Green Bay 20.

  2. After 2 weeks of reading Packer fan I’m surprised the entire team is not already enshrined in Canton. How did a team that overpowering lose 6 games this year?

  3. i learned early in life, its not always WHAT you know, but more often then not its WHO you know… I’m gonna use WHO i know to start a website & throw out my “educated” opinions & GET PAID>….

  4. How did a team that overpowering lose 6 games this year?

    —————–

Simple. You have 206 games missed by starters and starters backups this season. Its not like its rocket science or long division. The Packers team motto this year should be: Our backups are better than your starters.

Bill Simmons @ ESPN gave one of the most educated SB explanations I’ve seen from the media:

“Green Bay 37, Pittsburgh 27. Why? Because the Packers pulled a fast one on us this year. They probably should have been a 14-win juggernaut, but injuries and bad luck knocked them down to the wild card. They probably should have been remembered as one of those ridiculously fast, comically explosive, scary-in-a-dome passing teams on the level of the ’99 Rams or ’98 Vikings, but they were stuck playing in the NFC North. Even this week, they probably should have been favored by more than three against a banged-up Steelers team that ground out two less-than-impressive but gritty home playoff victories, but everyone’s been so blinded by Big Ben stories and the possibility of another Pittsburgh dynasty that we talked ourselves into it being an even game.”

  5. dachozen1….. You do realize that GB is not another crappy AFC north offense like the steelers faced all year. Steelers have a great D but how did that work out against the Saints and Pats passing attacks this year???

  6. What BS. The Packers played in a sissy division, and more so, a sissy conference. Their defense is a fraud. If they were so good, they would have won their division and not lost to Detroit and Washington, among others. Pittsburgh will win this game going away, because that’s what they do.

  7. i can’t see the packers stopping mendenhall, and i can’t see rodgers doing well vs pitt’s defense when rodgers had a crappy game vs the bears D

so i can’t really see pitt losing this one

  8. lavikings, I dont know what Green Bay has done to hoodwink everyone. You bringing up a close game against the Saints and a bad game against the Patriots is like me talking about Green Bay’s losses to Redskins and the Lions. What defense has Green Bay played against? Who have they beaten? Green Bay wouldve lost to the Ravens and the Jets. The NFC is a weak conference and again tomorrow evening will shut all this new found love for the ferocious Packers. These bookies set everyone up to make a big pay day when the obvious is clear. Pittsburgh has the better QB, defense, running game and tomorrow cant get here fast enough!

  9. Yeah the Packers cant stop Mendenhall.

    Lets see
    Adrian Peterson twice
    Mike Vick twice
    L.T.
    Marshawn Lynch
    Matt Forte Three times
    micheal Turner

Every back on that list is better than Rashard Mendenhall He is a borderline starter in this league. Heck Ryan Grant is better than him.

  10. “Pittsburgh will win this game going away, because that’s what they do.”
Congrats on the last couple Super Bowls but since when does beating Seattle (with the help of the refs) and Arizona (miracle finish) by a handful of points constitute “going away”?

I’d be alright with Pitt winning if that would mean their obnoxious, glory-chasing, dog towel sniffing, “national” fan base who don’t know where the city is on a map, would just “go away”

  11. Actually, with my NFC conference eyes, I can see the Packers winning a real possibility simply because they beat the Eagles at Philly twice, and demolished a Giants team that needed to win. Once they beat the Eagles in the wildcard round, I knew they were better than their 10-6 record would suggest. Granted, I can also see Pittsburgh winning a possibility too. Perhaps that’s why the Vegas line between these two teams is only 3 pts.

  12. NFC is a weaker conferance Hah
    |Packers beat Jets in New York
    Bears beat Jets
    Saints beat Steelers
    Falcons beat Ravens

AFC is an old conference Colts are old Jets are old Ravens are old Pats are all AFC has. Wheres the young talent to take there spot.
NFC is full of young talent Packers Buccs Rams Falcons Saints Eagles even Lions
Change is coming on Sunday Out with the old in with the new. You know its coming

  13. here is one for all the football dopes out there! the PACKERS have had more attempts and more yards per game, then any team they’ve played in the PLAYOFFS! that’s right philly, atlanta- turner!, da bearssssss and their going to do it to pittsburgh!!! GREEN & GOLD 34-24

  14. dachozen1…. The pack shut out the jets in NY. I would also put the Vikings and Lions ahead of the Browns and Bengals as far as talent goes. Tomorrow you will realize the Great Steeler D is not facing Flaco, McCoy, Palmer or Sanchez!!!

  15. jarrman46, you are living in a fantasy world. I see why it was easy for the bookies to sell you this crap on a plate about the Packers. lol. You have a disdain for truth. The truth is the Packers have been mediocre at best this year and played 1 great game against a fraudulent team in the Falcons. No one took them seriously because everyone who knows football knew they had too many holes. While the Bears defense is noteworthy their offense is not that good. However, the great mighty Packers still allowed a 3rd string QB come in and keep the game close. Your mighty Packers offense scored the same amount of the 3rd string QB for the Bears did “14”. Steelers go up by 20 and then allow their D to close it but teams like Packers/ Patriots try to score fantasy points. Dont be fooled by flashy numbers because Steelers already proved they can win shootouts but prefer tough football. Ben already beat Rodgers 504 yds passing, 3 tds and no picks when they met head to head. Steelers have 5 ways they can beat the Packers and Packers have to pray that Steelers have a bad Defensive day. Also, they have to pray for Aaron to play perfect and he proved he cant against a good defense.

  16. Everyone nos that pittsburg wouldn’t have beet baltimore if there wasn’t some bad calls that the leauge even addmitted to. So the pack will win this one hands down.

  17. Matt… if you follow that logic then the Steelers should be undefeated. With suspensions and injuries the Steelers overcame and got the second seed. Don’t listen to some stupid comment by a talking head.

This will be a tough game. The Steelers should win. They are better… but that doesn’t always happen. We’ll see. Can’t cry about not having Pouncey or Smith. The team that’s put on the field is the team that’s put on the field.

Or, as someone has stated better… “The standard is the standard.”
    ——-
    Go Steelers!

Legs… get that f’ing Center/QB exchange down and WE are golden!

GB is a Steelers clone… but the Steelers are still the Standard.

    Bill Simmons… “educated.” Funny sh*t.

  18. I love it. You hear the previous foes crying. Ben has beaten the Ravens the past 3 yrs 8 games straight. In 2008 the Steelers beat them 3 straight. In 2010 Ravens beat Steelers without Ben and they thought this was their year. Ben came back to beat them in Bmore for home field and then in the playoff game after going down 14 to nothing. Steelers spotted them 14 points on bad play instead of ” titsburgfeelers ” standing up and being a man/woman they prefer to blame it on the refs. I’m sure that will be the same excuse tomorrow. Even when the Steelers win people are crying. That’s how you know you have arrived, when everyone is gunning for you. There’s a lot of hurt feelings out there and will be more tomorrow.

  19. zakkwyldeslespaul, they had 15 on IR. They lost all their games by a total of 20 points. They have never been behind by more than seven points at any time this season. Four losses by three points. Two in the last couple of minutes, two in OT. Two losses by four points. VERY impressive. The Steelers can’t match that. If they had 15 on IR they wouldn’t be here.

  20. The Packers can’t run and can’t stop the run. You don’t win Super Bowls that way, no matter how pretty everyone thinks your passing game is.

    Steelers 27 Pack 13

  21. dmretrogames: i thought the steelers fans were more informed! out rushed and out gained any team we played! 1 more time on sunday dumb *ss! see you on monday whiner! blame it on the ref’s loser

  22. @jarrman46

First off, you are an idiot. The most blatant evidence is that 8 of the 10 OLDEST teams are in the NFC, whereas there are only 5 in the 10YOUGEST . (Colts are in fact the second youngest team and the Saints are the second oldest). Don’t determine a team’s youth based on the QB’s age.

Secondly, football among other sports such as basketball and baseball, COVET veteran leadership and experience in the post-season, youth only gets you so far…

Want to argue with my numbers, see for yourself…

  23. Greenbay is a nice story, and Rogers is a nice player, and they are on a roll right now. But they better hope Rogers does not have a bad game or gets knocked out of the game because we’ve all seen what happens to Greenbay when he doesn’t play… they lose TO TEAMS LIKE THE LIONS!!! What happened when Big Ben didn’t play the first 4 games, the Steelers went 3-1. That’s the difference in these TEAMS. One team can win as a team the other team loses to the Lions.

    Coaching staff – advantage Steelers
    Defense – edge Steelers
    Running game – advantage Steelers
Passing game – edge Packers (but maybe not on this stage)
QB – edge Steelers (big game winner)
    D-line – edge Steelers
    O-line – edge Packers
    Special teams – no advantage.
    Take aways – edge Steelers
Big game experiance – advantage Steelers

Because Greenbay is on such a roll it’s a great matchup. Hot team vs. two time champion. Greenbay wins if number 1 – Rogers stays healthy and on his feet, number 2 – Greenbay has to be able to run the ball, and number 3 – they have to get to Roethlisberger. Pittsburgh will win if Greenbay does not do all of the above. Either way I hope we get a great game because it may be the last NFL game we see for two years.

  24. We’re off to a good start.

Bettis didn’t get the Hall of Fame nod.

Penguins have suffered a big injury to a key guy.

And the Pirates are headed for their 20th season as a triple A team.

Steelers lose tomorrow and all will be good with the world.

Let’s hear it for the piss and coal.

Like this clown’s opinion means anything? He’s obviously a pimply faced adolescent, based on the name and (not to be the grammar police) the spelling and grammar! nos? pittsburg? beet? addmitted? Really? Your Language Arts teacher needs to give you an F-, son.

Of course the NFC North is a sissy conference. That’s why both the Packers and da Bears ended up in the NFC Championship.

As for sissy divisions… Does the AFC not include such powerhouse teams as the Bills (4-12), the Bengals (4-12) and the Broncos (4-12)? Take a look at the final W-L records around the league and it appears there is more keif trying to compete in the AFC than there is in the NFC.

BTW: Don’t the Steelers play the Bengals (4-12)and the Browns (5-11) four times a season? Obviously the AFC North is a freaking powerhouse of competition. LOL!

  27. Dachozen1
Considering the Steelers had to work overtime in Pittsburgh to beat the Falcons that doesnt say alot about the Steelers. Your Steelers barely scraped by in the playoffs at home because Baltimores Recievers couldnt catch balls and Mark sanchez sucks. Youll find out that Green Bay recievers can catch and Aaron Rodgers is a tad bit better than Sanchez. And far as last years offensive showing by Pittsburgh against the Packers consider this. First year in Capers defense and players admit they didnt know what they were doing. Packers just lost Al Harris to season ending injury and Tramone Williams was thrust into starting spot Brandon Underwood doesnt even suit up for Pack(he was the nickelback) and Josh Bell isnt even on team(DB who gave up winning TD. No |Sam Shields either(better learn that name soon expert). Change is coming on Sunday. You know it

  28. Packers cant run so they cant win the Super Bowl.
Where are all the good running teams right know.
    Lets Check
    Giants home
    Eagles home
    Vikings home
    Falcons home
    Jets home
    Ravens home
    Titans home
    Jaguars home

I sure wish the Packers could run the ball!!!

  29. zakkwyldlespaul,

They lost six close games… two by four points, and the other four by three points.

Some were due to the fact that they lost their pro bowl running back in the first game. They lost Jermichael Finley week 5. They had to make a lot of adjustments offensively.

Also Rodgers missed two games due to concussion.

If they were 100% healthy all season there’s no reason not to think they could have been 13-3 or even 14-2…

However records mean nothing at this point. The Pack has won five in a row. They have finally put all the pieces together and they are a very dangerous team at this point whether you like it or not.

  30. The Packers played a tougher schedule than the Steelers. Anyone that doesn’t think so is either being disingenuous or is a moron.

And for the record, this isn’t the 60’s or the 70’s. Although it helps, you don’t need to have a great running game to win the SB anymore. It’s been proven time and again this past decade, yet people who can’t think for themselves still base their predictions on that outdated point of view.

  31. Schefter? Isn’t he the guy that gets all the “breaking news” after it’s been on NFL network half the day? You can see why he was easily dispensable to NFL network.

Your off the mark again, Adam.

@dmretrogames, Can’t agree with you more. Let us not forget that James Harrison will be in the backfield all day. Well, unless the Packers continue holding. As they have all year.

I’m going to say Rodgers has a short day.

  32. I remember what happy the last time a crappy 6 seed from the NFC faced a unstoppable team from the AFC in a Super Bowl

    Giants17 Patriots 14

Funny Giants had no Super Bowl experience against a 3 time Super Bowl champion Patriots team. Packers probably should just stayat there hotel tomorrow right. Woodsons going to turn Big Ben into Neil O’Donnell. Oh yeah Steelers fans you dont like to talk about that one. Selective memory I guess.

    —————————————————-

Since you brought up the game from 2009, you probably know that Rodgers had 383 yds and 4 total TD’s against the Steelers in that game. But I thought he couldn’t play well against good defenses.

Oh I suppose that’s irrelevant. We’re only allowed to bring up past games if you’re making a point that favors the Steelers, right? Just like saying the Falcons are fraudulent after the Packers demolish them, yet the mighty Steelers needed OT at home to beat them this year.

I can assure you the Packers defense is much improved since 2009 and Ben will find out later tonight.

  34. its comical beyond comprehension the predictions based on we beat them and you didnt beat them by more than 4..blah blah blah..basically this game between the 2 best teams and the 2 of the most successful franchises in football will simply come down to which team plays better tomorrow. Over 65% of NFL games are decided by less than 4 points and this one will be no different and for anyone to think differently just means they need to take off their team colored PJs and come out of moms basement..whichever teams QB is in more of a comfort zone will lead his team to victory…simple as that

  35. IR???????????????
the steelers didn’t have their starting QB for the first 4 games of the season….
but i’m sure ANY team if the league could get to the big one without a QB….
they also had a bunch ridin the pines…
    especially the O line……
it’s funny how people always hate a winner,,,, unless it’s their winner…..
and i’m sure if they win this one,,,,, it will be like the other 6…. bad calls,,,, luck,,,,, cheap shots,,, blah, blah,,blah…….
could it be,,,,, just maybe,,,,, those 6 wins were because they were the better team?????
truthfully,,,,, they were the better team in all 7 super bowls…

  36. …and while we’re on the subject of the dominant AFC let me rundown my checklist of head to head games with the top 6 teams from each confrence this year..
    saints over steelers check
    falcons over ravens check
    eagles over indy check
    packers over jets check
chiefs losing to the raiders.. TWICE check
    bears over jets check
LMAO yah gotta love that AFC dominance

  37. and i do like to talk about the dallas game…..
there is the proof the the best team doesn’t always win…. winning makes you a winner,,, not the best….
the steelers just happened to be the best 7 times,,,,, winners 6 times…..

  38. Dom Capers and Kevin Greene coach the pack and their D will beat steelers at line of scrimage. The Molester will try harder than a he does blocking the janitor’s closet door when he’s raping chicks but in the end the Packers back 7 will eat him up 2 picks. Mendenhall Sucks and GB d line will eat up steelers o line!

Rodgers and Pack Passing will eat up the AFC secondary and the long haired injured by half #43. Packers by 10!

Yes I’m disgruntled ravens fan but the steelers ain’t seen a O like the Pack.
