Simms: There was no chance for “physical confrontation” with Howard

It should come as no surprise that Phil Simms has a different recollection of his meeting with Desmond Howard Saturday.

“Desmond and I were having a private conversation that became heated,” Simms said in a statement to Richard Deitsch of SI.com. “But at no time was there ever a chance of any physical confrontation, or that I felt the police officer assigned to me by the event planners for my appearance needed to separate the two of us.”

Howard claimed via Twitter that Simms threatened to punch him for comments Howard made on air about Simms’ son Matt, who is a quarterback at Tennessee. Howard also said police got involved.

The incident shouldn’t ultimately have any impact past this weekend. But it did provide for some entertainment on this quiet Saturday afternoon before the Hall of Fame announcement.

Now excuse me while I look for old Chris Simms posts on PFT to make sure we’re safe in case we see Phil this weekend.
