Probably could have put it in a little more of a professional context. How about the 3 lowest rated QB’s in the SEC? Don’t Blame Simms for getting angry, but he has to maintain his professionalism also. How about teaching your kids a lesson on how to deal with criticism from analysts?? Just threaten to punch them in the mouth. Nice parenting skills Phil. Right up there with Howards command of the English language. Worse??

Forgive me for going off topic and casting a stone towards Desmond. He had moderate success in the NFL with one Pro Bowl (like hundreds of other players), was a SB MVP (like Dexter Jackson and Larry Brown), and had 12k all purpose yards (along with 50+ other players near or above that amount). Overall, many would and should be happy with that. But as a 4th overall pick who had an such electrifying college career as a Heisman winner, shouldn’t he have been better? At least Phil has one thing to comfort him: Most would agree he was a better NFL player than Desmond.

Unless I am wrong it seems Simms (assuming he is doing his job properly) spends every Sunday afternoon in the fall criticizing the kids of parents across the nation.
So is it ok for Buddy Ryan to give Phil a beatdown when he calls his son’s playcalling unoriginal? Is it ok for Howie Long to punch out Simms because he pointed out Chris Long missed an assignment?

You’re missing the point. Simms is professional in every broadcast. He’s never personal. He may say someone’s play calling lacks originality, but that’s not a personal attack.

What Desmond Howard said was not just personal, it was stupid. Calling any player “one of the worst” in any context, is hardly thoughtful. It’s something a fan in the stands would say. That’s hardly “professional analysis.”

I also hear that the best way to really get under Simm’s skin is not to point out his kids poor QB performances but instead refer to him as “Boomer”.

That why Phill sucks at broadcasting – Never wants to be critical or say something bad about one of his NFL buddies.

it would be nice if you could tell us exactly what Howard said, and if it was possibly over the line somehow? Was he just critical, or did he mock him?

IIRC Howard said in reference to Simms and LSU’s 2 QBs, “These are the 3 worst SEC QBs” during the UT-LSU game.
