Belichick helps the guys get into jobs. It is actually a big deal with him, his Dad was a scout (wrote The Book on it).
BB of course moved around, he gets that aspect of it, respects that they want to move up.

Wow how selfish are the Jets? They don’t want any of their current position coaches to succeed with a better job with a different franchise. I hope all future could be coaches take notes and that ruins them for years to come of getting quality coaches to come work for them. I would say I’m shocked by this news but coming from the Jets it doesn’t surprise me, pathetic organization with ignorant fans. Stay true Yets!

It’s worse than that. If your contract expires Feb. 10, for example, you have to sign your new one by Feb. 10 … or risk that the team will hire someone else in your place, because they’ll know you aren’t committed to them. But, you can’t interview UNTIL the contract expires. So, basically, in order to take a chance on getting another job, you have to risk losing the one you already have.

Some would say that isn’t fair.

The league should step in here. It’s in the league’s interest for assistant coaches to be promoted to coordinator. The league shouldn’t let teams bar assistant coaches from interviewing for coordinator jobs, any more than it allows teams to bar assistants or coordinators from interviewing for head coaching positions.

I agree with above comments that if I was him I would be gone after my contract runs out…as long as someone wanted me that is.

Now, he could have a behind the scenes deal worked out with the Jets and they are keeping him happy, who knows, but on the surface it’s an unfortunate part of the job.

Some might say there should be rules that anyone should be able to interview for a promotion, but the reason you can’t is because they can give a coach any title they want to, but that doesn’t mean he is going to get the responsibility…I would bet any team that has a HC that calls the offensive plays and has an OC that OC isn’t organizing that offense, the HC is. So to pull a good position coach from another team all you would have to do is give them a title and no responsibility…which I guess some teams do in the case of GM…anyway, I’m rambling now.

Maybe he can threathen to retire like those idiot Bengal players.

Callahan is as integral a part of the Jets coaching staff as either coordinator, which many of you would know if you cared to look into the situation for more than 12 seconds before spewing the trash in this comment section.

Number one is that by denying this guy the right to interview elsewhere for a promotion is going to make him not feel positively about you as an employer. Lower morale = lower production.

Number two is that you are only denying the interview because you “like this guy” or that he’s good. Bottom line? He knows he was up for the OC job potentially, so unless you’ve giving him your OC position when his contract is up, he’s gone. You’ve now…lost him… because he’s going looking for a vacant OC job….no longer wanting to work for the guy that “held him back.”

It’s good and great to say “he’s under contract” but owners flip players like playing cards, and cut them like steak.
Maybe they should be allowed to set conditional guidelines. If we let you interview our O-line coach and sign him to be your OC …. 7th round draft pick if you miss the playoffs, 6th round for wc round, 5th for div, 4th for conference, 3rd for super bowl. (of course the interview w/o signing would get no compensation).

I can half understand why any team who is feeling greedy wouldn’t want to let a coach talk to another club. Why would you want to give in to: “Please let us interview your assistant, let us sign him! Help us improve our club through the detriment of yours, with nothing in return.”

Still, “Classy” move, Jets, way to hold the man down.

Funny how ownership never realizes that argument works with players also.
