Tamba Hali, Zach Miller expected to get franchise tag

The NFLPA and NFL can’t even agree to meet on consecutive days, so they aren’t likely to agree on the use of the franchise tag anytime soon.

That won’t prevent teams from starting to apply the tag Thursday, even if we don’t know for certain what it will mean when a new CBA is worked out.

With all that out of the way, Jason La Canfora of NFL Network has a handy list of players that should and shouldn’t get tagged over the next two weeks.  Chiefs linebacker Tampa Hali and Raiders tight end Zach Miller are among the two players on the list.

Hali and the Chiefs have actually been exchanging contract proposals this offseason, so a long-term deal could happen before a work stoppage.

Patriots guard Logan Mankins and Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson could have their 2010 drama extended into 2011 by getting tagged as well.

Hard to believe Zach Miller will be franchised unless Richard Seymour is signed to a long term contract (especially since he cost the Raiders a 1st rounder in this year’s draft).

To me it would make more sense to franchise a 32 year old DE and try to squeeze one more productive year out of him (mainly since he is a great team leader) and give a long term contract to a young, talented recieving TE.

TAMBA NOT TAMPA HALI is a beast! Do they have a beast tag they could put on him? Just slap the run of the mill tag on miller. Then we are all done here. Simple Simon

There won’t be the same drama for Logan Mankins and Jackson as last year as they will be paid significantly more than last year.

Mankins made ~1 Mio, I guess less, and will make ~10 Mio this time.

However, his calculation for the holdout and not signing the contract the Patriots offered did not quite work out. He will never be able to recoup the money he lost last season. Stupid.

    hey smart people. serious question..

if a player is tagged, what are their options if they dont want to play under the franchise tender? just not sign & hold out?

All the reports I am reading from last night and this morning in the Bay-Area are saying that Seymour will be tagged.

Besides, how can they tag Zach Miller when they don’t even know if he is a FA without a new CBA?? I thought that was the hanging point ?

Yeppers…Although I can’t think off hand of anyone that actually held out through an entire season.

    Seymour will be tagged

People who are not from the Bay Area trying to understand the workings of Al Davis (Gregg Rosenthal) have their heads up their ass or their foot in their mouth.

not so sure about that…..seems like the new cba for sure will have a rookie salary cap, which equates to more rookies on roster and more vets getting cut, or taking pay cuts. Zach will sign a deal, as will Bush, and Gallery…Seymour will be the one that gets tagged if anybody does. Also look for him to rotate more between a DE, and DT, as raiders will add big body for middle like fat albert, or rodgers……could even take a good look at the kid from Hampton

Zack Miller will be a restricted FA. Why on earth would we need to tag him and essentially overpay?
