Also, left unsaid by the Vikings is that if Pluto was a little bigger it would still be planet.

Also, left unsaid by the Vikings is that if a frog had wings it wouldn't whomp it arse on the ground every time it hopped.

Also, left unsaid by the Vikings is that the Favre experiment was exciting, but averaged over two years it might be a pick 'em.

Also left unsaid by the Vikings is that . . . are you kidding me with this reporting, er I uh mean . . . speculation?

canadianvikingfaniii:

As a Packer fan, I confirm you are absolutely correct. The Vikings belong in Minnesota. I suggest I speak for most Packer fans saying:

1. We want the Vikings to remain in Minnesota--we share a great history.
2. We are glad the Favre era is over. Great player, but this Vikings attempt to chase fools gold has ended up helping the Packers more than the Vikings.
3. We want to see real outdoor football played on both sides of the boarder. With modern technology, both fans and players can plan and withstand the elements. That Metrodome has been an antiseptic, cheap rec room place to watch sports. The Twins have returned to real outdoor sports, so should the Vikings.

**********************

I think you're wrong about that. My beloved San Diego Chargers have practically already started changing their trademark images to say Los Angeles Chargers, just like their 1960 season.

Sucks for me as a fan in San Diego, but I'm smart enough to grasp the reality and rationale of the situation.

Moving the Chargers to LA makes most sense for both the team and the town (LA). The town gets a winner (relatively speaking of course) and the team gets a wider audience.

However, I don't see the Chargers being anymore successful in LA, either in terms of wins OR attendance if they move. Sure, there will be an initial spike in attendance for the first two years as NFL fans in LA scope out their brand new downtown stadium and NFL franchise, but when the Chargers inevitably continue to fail to reach (let alone exceed) their expectations from year to year, the historically uninterested LA fanbase will dwindle, leaving the Chargers (probably with a new name a la The Ravens) as well as new backers AEG left with a profitless and meaningless team.

Despite the prevailing perception on this website, dubiously perpetuated by disaffected Raiders fans, the Chargers have sold out every game in the last 6 years, except for two, both of them last year after a 2-5 start. They should consider themselves lucky to be in the playoff hunt every year, given their historically poor performance in the AFC West over the last 50 years, and should stay put instead of making huge sweeping changes which could put them all the way back to square one.

Minnesota Vikings have issued a formal letter of their intent to move the team. Breaking News. The Minnesota Vikings have issued a letter to Ramsey County officials on their intent to begin to negotiate on a public partnership to finance a new Minnesota Viking stadium and move the team from the Metrodome site to the site in Arden Hills. The Minnesota Vikings are moving! To Arden Hills Minnesota! 25,000 parking spots, a brand new fixed roof stadium, and their practice facilities/team headqaurters will be built on the site of the old ammunition plant, a formal vote by Ramsey County officials will take place next week.
--------------

Before you all go thumbs-down on this post, it's actually true. The local ABC affiliate even has a PDF of the letter available on their website. of course, it doesn't mean the legislation will approve anything, but it's the first "move" the vikes have made in quite some time.

Minnesota is a funny market though; Having lived there for 3 years, its a real mix of fans. Many fans are old GB fans because of the proximity to western wisconsin. The Packers were playing football 40 years before the Vikngs existed. They do have a core fan base, but its real small compared to other teams. They also have "short man's disease" in regards to GB, Chi and Det. They'll always be the little brother and that drives them crazy.

It seems like a terrible waste of taxpayer dollars to replace the roof on the Metrodome, then turn around & build a new stadium. It would seem the cost-effective option is to have them play at Gopher stadium until this is resolved.

On a side note/tangent...I get aggravated hearing Goodell state that no new stadiums have broken ground since the current CBA went into effect. There's 2 problems with that:

1) We just went through the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. No banks were lending money...certainly not for shiny new stadiums when it wasn't even sure that people could still afford to even go to sporting events.

2) Almost every owner asks for taxpayers to foot the bill anyways. Rarely will owners pony up their own dough for stadiums.

The collapse of the I-35 west bridge in Minneapolis in 2007 changed priorities for many people across Minnesota. It would be a shame for the Twin Cities to lose the Vikings (to Los Angeles perhaps?) and hopefully a new stadium solution can be worked out.

Something to consider: if the Vikings move to LA, would the NFL swap them with the Rams in divisional alignment?

How perfect would it be if the state gives $18 million to throw a dome back on for the 2011 season only to have said season locked out and cancelled, and have the team skip out of town once the lease is up after this year and have all that time, money and effort wasted?

This is Roger Goodell's NFL for you.
