Mike Tice gets contract extension with Bears

Bears offensive line coach Mike Tice didn’t get a chance to be the Titans offensive coordinator, but he did get a little extra money in his pocket from the Bears.

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports that Tice got a one-year extension through 2012 on Wednesday.   (He presumably got a pay bump on the final year too.)  In exchange, the man formerly known as Meathead essentially can’t complain about not getting his shot for a promotion.

Tice wasn’t the only Bears assistant to get an extension.  Running backs coach Tim Spencer, defensive backs coach Jon Hoke, and linebackers coach Bob Babich all were extended through 2012.

He can still complain if he wants to.

Coach the worst-rated unit in the league, get a raise!

Dude did more with less than any positional coach in the league. That Bears O line was the textbook definition of “Matador”.

I dare you to call him Meathead to his belly button, Gregg.

Tice’s offensive line allowed over 50 sacks last year and he still gets a contract extension? Really?

The real question is did he scalp any tickets or arrange for any sex cruises for his players? Meathead doesn’t describe his previous life well enough. IDIOT is more like it.

Good thing he got a raise. His OL was sure tops this year!!

    Gotta love the Bares…

He signed an extension? So he took himself out of getting a promotion with 31 other teams. Was he worried that when his contract was up he wouldn’t be able to get a O-line coaching job with anyone else and he’d have to look for lower rung work? Meathead, indeed.

The fact is he did more than most expected. This line was in real trouble from the start. Olin Kruetz and who else? The fact is the Bears need a guy like Tice. You can criticise the Bears, but they denied letting the Titans interview the guy. That doesn’t mean they were going to hire him. So, they steped up and paid the dude.

He will be the head coach in 2012 once Lovie is fired and once the Bears fail to make the playoffs assuming there is a season this year.

I have to admit, tho he may not have been a good head coach in Minnesota, and he oversaw the Loveboat scandal he was pretty great in interviews and fun at his press conferences.
