Earlier today, we surmised that Eagles quarterback Mike Vick possibly decided to cancel an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show because he feared an ambush from the owners of one of his fighting dogs, perhaps with one or more of the dogs making an appearance, too.

For a change, we may have surmised correctly.

Michael McCarthy of USA Today reports that owners of dogs rescued from Vick’s rural Virginia property had been “flooding” Oprah’s show with calls and e-mails requesting that the “voices of the victims’ families” be heard on the show.

Radio host Wayne Hunter, who tried unsuccessfully to question Vick regarding his former dogs during Super Bowl week in Dallas, told McCarthy that Hunter believes Vick bailed because he feared being confronted by one or more of the people who adopted his dogs.

“True to form, when Michael Vick feels the heat, he scrambles out of the pocket,” Hunter said.
