Perhaps the most talented group of franchise players in league history continues to get better.
The Chiefs designated defensive end Tamba Hali as their franchise player on Wednesday. The move was widely expected.
“Tamba is a key contributor to our football team, and we have a tremendous amount of respect for him both personally and professionally,” G.M. Scott Pioli said. “We want Tamba to remain a member of the Chiefs, and we will continue to work together with the hope of reaching a long-term agreement.”
We’d rank Hali among the five most valuable defensive ends in football. While the Chiefs dealt Jared Allen in his prime under former G.M. Carl Peterson, we fully expect Hali to get his huge contract in Kansas City.

Tamba is a great NFL player. He was great, humble and upstanding at Penn State. I hope he gets what he deserves from the Chiefs.
The AFC Sack leader should get a huge contract. Chiefs will be in trouble without him.
Thank FSM that Pioli is not Carl Peterson, and Hali is not Jared Allen. On the latter part, Hali’s a somewhat less valuable commodity than Allen, but he’s also a far more reliable character and excellent locker room presence. I think all those factors mean KC will pay the best pass-rusher on the team this time.
Hali and Clay Matthews are refreshing to watch
Great football player and a great person. You don’t always get both but KC has it with Hali.
