Titans hire new running back coach for run-heavy offense

C. Johnson6

On Friday afternoon, new Titans offensive coordinator Chris Palmer laid out his plan for an ideal offense: He wants at least 65 plays, with 35 rushes and 30 passes. He wants a time of possession around 32 minutes.

That type of ball-control run-heavy offense is rare in today’s offense, and difficult to attain. Still, it clearly says what type of team the Titans want to be on offense.

To accomplish this, the Titans hired a well respected running backs coach in Jim Skipper. (The team quickly confirmed a report by Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean regarding the hire.) The former Panthers running back coach realized he’s lucky to go from DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart to Chris Johnson.

“To be in my profession, that is what you call blind luck,” Skipper said.

The Titans have an offensive line with good continuity with players in their prime. They have Hall of Fame offensive linemen dotted all over the roster.

Tennessee may not have a quarterback yet, but Mike Munchak has an identity on offense already.
