It actually blew Pervy's mind when the Packers won another Superbowl. His usual rants were about AR, and the coaching staff, how they could never win the big one.

Then when they won the Superbowl, again, it digressed to ad hominen attacks on WI and their residents, because he couldn't actually rip on the Packers' play on the field. He had to find something to rant about.

One thing you can always say to Pervy is that our superbowl MVP QB is better than yours. It was true last year, it will be true next year, and it will be true for the next 5+ years.

I can't wait for the Packers to get Leslie Frasier fired next year. One down, one to go. GO PACK GO.

If that were true, why read this article & post about it?

Clearly, many of you DO care.

How bout them apples?

Ok, lesson is over, carry on with your day my fellow pupils.

Favre did NOT put GB on the map they had won 11 titles before he had shown up.

While he did help bring GB back to be a contender in the 90s , and did have one of the best statisical careers in NFL history.

He is NOT Lombardi, he could have been held in reguards as the 2nd greatest Packer in history even in front of Bart Starr, but he is selfish. For that reason he won't be. Looking back when he was pouting on the podium when the team won a SB, it wasn't "cuz the journey was over," he wanted the personal accolades of SB MVP. The guy is so selfish he put himself in front of his wife the girl thats been with him since H.S.

Thats the reason why Favre catches so much heat, in my opinion. Its more about him being completely self centered, than not appreciating the things he has done. At least thats where I stand on it.

Favre is like the wild gunslinger. Sure he was faster than everyone else and lived a long time, but he also had a lot of collateral damage, shooting innocents/ horses and broke a lot of windows (interceptions).

You say Rodgers has a long way to go to catch Favre's numbers? I hope Rodgers never even remotely comes close to BrInt's interception record.

Seventeen years as a Green Bay Packer, two Super Bowl’s I don’t know how many playoffs and you boners are bitching about Favre. Aaron Rodgers has a LONG way to go to catch up to Brett’s numbers. My honest opinion is he’ll never last that long.

-------------------------------------------------------
It just would have helped if Favre had been a little bit better in those playoffs. Care to guess which playoff run of any size Favre had by far the fewest attempts and completions in? That's right, 1996 - the year the Pack had the best O, the best D, the best ST, a HOF GM in control of the talent, and a likley HOF coach/contributor in Holmgren. The only playoff where Favre didn't have to be front and center, and Desmond Howard ran the ball back all season long, did the Great and Wonderful Favre "get" a championship for us.

Care to guess what Favre's playoff career QB rating in "exit games" (the final playoff game eliminated in, of course excluding 1996 which didn't terminate) is? A robust 69 - Joey Harrington career caliber numbers. 45 TD's and 33 turnovers in the playoffs. Yes he did SOOOOOO much for us Packer fans.

He played very good ball for a long, long time IN THE REGULAR SEASON. And he owns all the PERSONAL records. But without one of the best teams in the history of the league (probably top 20) in 1996 Favre would have been Dan Marino Jr. - a Record Book Hero.

All he did was crumble in pressure situations. He never developed beyond his basic skills by a whole lot - didn't seem to want to expend the necessary physical and mental energy. And so when he faced steep pressure, he tossed the ball around like a spazz. He didn't know what to do. Only when he had a historically good team behind him did he "gut it out". It is remarkable that he was inately good enough to play well up to the wild card round level. But he was useless as wet toilet paper beyond it.

Did the last Super Bowl seem to have a different quality to it versus many of the Favre playoff runs? That's right, Rodgers threw the ball 39 times and had about one bad pass, and not one coming even close to being intercepted. If Lord Favre had played that game he would have been good for at least one pick and another pick or a fumble - and the Pack don't win the game.

Just to drive a stake in the heart of all this Favre worship, I have little doubt with the talent the Pack had assembled by 1995, and Favre had been benched in 1994 like the majority of the coaching staff had wanted, Mark Brunell would have won at least one, if not two, Super Bowls for the Packers.

I’m going to tell you Packer fans how the rest of the world views you. I am being totally serious. Until you get over bashing Favre, the man who put you on a MAP when you were flyover country, we will ridicule you. You claim to be the best fans but we all know that is a load of crap. Embrace your Packer history, quit slamming your former SB winning QB and we may, just may look at you guys as more than skid marks on the under wear of life. You won a SB and you still cry like girls about Favre. He OWNS you.
--------------------------------------------------

Perv, I'll give you credit. You're still posting here despite of the monumental epic fail of the Vikings this year. You didn't run away like that Vox Veritas when his Cowgirls had a colossal epic fail.

I'm not a Packer fan, but Favre doesn't own Green Bay now. Maybe he did up until this year. Rodgers validated everyone who ever believed in him, everyone who thought TT made the right move. The way Brett treated the Packers, I don't blame them for any ill will. But time heals all wounds, or at least most of them.

I always respected Brett, but the past few years have been pathetic. Not in his performance (well, other than this year) but the way he acts off the field.

Nobody knows what the future holds, but I think the odds are good that Rodgers wins another Super Bowl. His postseason this year was among the best ever.

The Packers made the right move, and with Aaron Rogers they have a bright future.

Nothing worse than wearing out your welcome, nothing better than leaving them wanting more.

I agree on the durability, but people don't just "have" durability. They have to have what it takes to keep getting up when other people couldn't or wouldn't ... an even tougher assignment after you've overcome a vicodin addiction. And durability was not the only thing. He also had a childlike enthusiasm for the game that you rarely see anymore. As you say, time will tell what kind of QB Rodgers becomes. But I don't look at him and see Iron Man. And since I'm not a Green Bay fan I have no reason to care how Rodgers turns out. I admired Brett's on-field persona because my own physical challenges make me empathetic to the Iron Man, and that's not gonna change no matter how many rants people post. People who've never had those kinds of life experiences couldn't possibly get that. But you should.

@ambrose ...

This will probably come as a huge surprise, but I really don't give a damn what you or your cohorts think of me or my opinion--which is shared by a whole lot of Favre fans. And perv has fun jerking the chains of idiots who are too dense to see through it, but he knows more about football than you could figure out with an instruction book in your hands. And durability was not the only thing. He also had a childlike enthusiasm for the game that you rarely see anymore. As you say, time will tell what kind of QB Rodgers becomes. But I don’t look at him and see Iron Man. And since I’m not a Green Bay fan I have no reason to care how Rodgers turns out. I admired Brett’s on-field persona because my own physical challenges make me empathetic to the Iron Man, and that’s not gonna change no matter how many rants people post. People who’ve never had those kinds of life experiences couldn’t possibly get that. But you should.

@ambrose …

This will probably come as a huge surprise, but I really don’t give a damn what you or your cohorts think of me or my opinion–which is shared by a whole lot of Favre fans. And perv has fun jerking the chains of idiots who are too dense to see through it, but he knows more about football than you could figure out with an instruction book in your hands. And he doesn’t give a damn what you think, either.

And I'm so sick of Green Bay fans taking one sentence from my post and beating me over the head AGAIN with their long, drawn-out story when I didn't ask. If you'd bothered reading beyond my first sentence, you'd have seen what I thought about Favre's vacillating on retirement.

Believe it or not, despite what you see out your windows, you're not actually in Siberia. The rest of us were privy to many, many news reports on Favre's indecisiveness and to stories from your own Wisconsin newspapers while all that was going on. We know the deal. You don't have to keep repeating it. You choose to keep repeating it because no matter how many times you say it, some of us still don't think that being unable to make a firm decision on retirement in timely fashion means that Favre is the egomaniacal monster you keep painting him to be.

GB pushed Brett to make his retirement decision before he was ready. Not blaming the Pack. One reason the Steelers sucked in the 80s is because they kept those 70s stars too long and didn’t rebuild. With free agency, the sad reality is that teams must move on. But try to imagine being the football hero who knows his time is passing.
-------------------------------------------------
Is both the GM and the coach telling NOT to retire pushing him out?

Is having a plane sent to Mississippi and a press conference set up to welcome him back as a starting QB in May, just to have him back out AGAIN, pushing him out?

God I am so sick of repeating these facts to people outside the situation who think they know the whole story.

He was not pushed out of Green Bay. His actions pushed him out of Green Bay.

Yeah ... good luck with that. We went 26 years between Super Bowl victories because we had top talent at every position but QB from '83 to '04. The 49ers followed Montana with Young ... then zip. What's Dallas done since Aikman but look for another Aikman? And I don't think they've found him in Romo. If that nut Goodell gets his way and keeps expanding the league, there will be fewer top-tier QBs than there are now--and we don't have enough now to cover half the teams.

Following one franchise QB with another is a gift. Be thankful and enjoy every minute of it. You may not walk this way again.

As I posted on another thread, I don't think the waffling about retirement was a cry for attention. I think some people don't know how to walk away from the game. Doctors begged Ali to give up boxing but he couldn't quit until he destroyed himself. Some people just don't know who they are if they're not the Champ or the QB or the Coach. Bear Bryant said he'd die within a week if he ever retired. He died within three months. I think Brett is like that. And I think he was bitter that he was so easily replaced in the hearts and minds of Green Bay. Terry retired in 1983, and this year he let everyone see how bitter he is almost three decades later about Roethlisberger's success. Imagine if Roethlisberger had been the one to boot him off the stage.

I'm not in your shoes. But I thought Favre was a once-in-a-generation QB. I've withstood a lot of physical challenges, so the Iron Man thing really resonates with me. Since I'm not a Pack fan, I'll never think Rodgers measures up to that.
I wasn’t aware that Roethlisberger replaced Bradshaw or that Favre replaced Starr in such an acrimonious environment. Nor did Steeler fans ever treat Bradshaw the way you people treat Favre. You are the one who doesn’t get it.

He didn’t do anything except go play for someone else after you tossed him aside
********************************
Oh, for the love of...

Favre gave the Packer fans and organization 5.5 amazing seasons under Holmgren, and then spent a decade meticulously tearing down every bit of the love and gratitude we had for him.

You know what he has in common with Bradshaw and Starr? He. Effing. RETIRED.

Remember the streaming tears and "I know I can still play, but I don't want to"? He spent 3 years pondering retirement in the offseason, and then he formally RETIRED from the Packers.

What you call "tossing him aside" was in reality the Packers saying "no" when he demanded his old job back.
Simple as that.

And yeah, he went to play for someone else... the JETS. and then he retired again, lied straight to their faces to get his release and ran to the Vikings... simply because he knew it would be the toughest thing possible on the fans, which would in turn put the most pressure on Packer mgmt.
Couple that with the sordid off the field stuff and...
Bam. Final straw, love affair over. (at least temporarily)

Speaking of Bradshaw, it was just last year that he looked straight at the camera and said he was "sick to death of Favre, and felt sorry for the people of Green Bay, the way this guy is."

And get this part straight: I just spent 3 minutes typing this in defense of Packer fans, not to tear down Favre again.
I know the guy is human. He did some of the most exciting things I've ever seen on the football field.
I do think he spun outta control, and would probably take back a lot of stuff if he could- same with everyone.

…Employer what now? What are you talking about? You really don’t get this?

Didn’t Bradshaw congratulate Roethlisberger when he won his first SB with the Steelers?

Starr certainly did with Favre in 97.

------------------------------------------------

I wasn't aware that Roethlisberger replaced Bradshaw or that Favre replaced Starr in such an acrimonious environment. Nor did Steeler fans ever treat Bradshaw the way you people treat Favre. You are the one who doesn't get it.

You guys can make fun of perv all you want but his comment about how others view the way you treat Favre was dead on the money. He didn't do anything except go play for someone else after you tossed him aside ... just like Montana did after the 49ers decided they preferred Young. The difference is that 49ers fans didn't act like spoiled brats about it.

First off I don't think either guy would "refuse" to talk to the other, or start an argument on the phone. I think its just a general gesture of Favre who is retiring and is trying to find closure with the Packers.

And this has nothing to do with "image", (he doesn't need Packer fan approval and certainly doesn't need Packer fans to support him financially) this is personal stuff with the team that comprised a large portion of his life. Brett's retiring so he's trying to close the chapter on Green Bay.

As for "taking too long" to talk to Rodgers, there aren't a whole lot of reasons for either guy to talk to the other, since they're not friends, but I think Brett just wants to make peace with Aaron to acknowledge that there isn't any personal beef between him and Aaron.
