Just like social security will be gone for folks who have earned over a certain amount, the retirement money should be excluded for players who have attained top 5% salaries at their position. Otherwise, he’ll be in line in 10 years trying to get his knee replacements paid for.

If the NFLPA really wanted to perform a service for their players, they would either strongly improve the pension system (for players like this who blow through their $$ foolishly) or work into the CBA an annuity-like salary structure like involves years of deferred salary rather than huge upfront bonuses. This would save many of fools from themselves.

Strongly improve the pension system for what reason? Because the players are too stupid to balance their own budgets? Why don’t they use some of the free education they got in college to do some financial planning, or even easier, HIRE a personal planner who watches out for them!
