wow you people are haters. he makes $3,150,000 a year and spent $100,000; 3.175% of his salary. For those of you making $40,000...should we all bash you for spending $1,269.84 on a huge bash for your friends. None of you has ever drank too much and gone nuts on a bar tab all in the name of everyone having a good night? If not, you shouldn't be allowed to cross 30 years old. Where were you all when this 31 year old helped raise $150,000 for at-risk teens; probably busy trashing some other player for using his money as he chooses. This kid works his ASS off his entire life to be a premier left tackle (one of the only 32 in the world starting in the NFL is it?). He's missed 4 starts in the past 8 years. This guy has collected over $50 million in signing bonuses ALONE! Maybe you should all think about what stupid crap you waste 3% of your salary on before opining on other people's use of their hard earned dollar. .."Booo, i have to thumbs down the guy who's NOT trashing these kids... of which I'm so jealous!"

rovibe says:

Are you for real? Do you have any idea how much someone in his bracket is paying in state and federal taxes? How about his agent’s cut for negotiating the contract?

McKinnie’s GROSS was $4.6 million. I’ll personally guarantee you his real NET pay was almost half that. Get a clue.

Though I could be wrong, last I heard agents get 3% ... Ouch

Just like social security will be gone for folks who have earned over a certain amount, the retirement money should be excluded for players who have attained top 5% salaries at their position. Otherwise, he'll be in line in 10 years trying to get his knee replacements paid for.

chocopoppy says: Feb 21, 2011 9:30 AM

If the NFLPA really wanted to perform a service for their players, they would either strongly improve the pension system (for players like this who blow through their $$ foolishly) or work into the CBA an annuity-like salary structure like involves years of deferred salary rather than huge upfront bonuses. This would save many of fools from themselves.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Strongly improve the pension system for what reason? Because the players are too stupid to balance their own budgets? Why don't they use some of the free education they got in college to do some financial planning, or even easier, HIRE a personal planner who watches out for them!

Most of these guys have been coddled and babysat their whole lives. Maybe it's time to make them be accountable for themselves on something.

$100K is roughly ONE WEEK's pay for this guy. While it may be stupid and over the top. He's probably going to be able to get by on the remaining $4,500,000.00 he earned last year.

Seriously, Bryant McKinnie was a top-10 pick and has been a starting left tackle since 2002. He has more than enough money to throw a big party for his boys if he so chooses.

Dang! I wasn't invited!

I have an idea. Instead of making the poor taxpayers of Minnesota pay for a new stadium how about guys like McKinnie throw down 100,000 for a real purpose?

If he would take football as serious as his partying and music maybe he would have turned into the player he was expected to be out of college.

"If the NFLPA really wanted to perform a service for their players, ..."

What they really need is some real world financial training. These guys don't seem to be thinking ahead.
Don't they realize they're going to lose their main source of income before the age of 40?

Seeing a guy throwing his money away like this makes you wonder if he even knows how to balance a checkbook.
