Vernon Gholston’s time in New York should be up

It seems like only yesterday that Jets coach Rex Ryan was proclaiming that Vernon Gholston’s “nuts were dropping” on Hard Knocks.

After another sack-less season, it sounds like Gholston will be dropped off the Jets roster. ESPNNewYork.com’s Rich Cimini called Gholston a “goner” in his positional review.

The evaluation is not a surprise and probably a year too late. Jets G.M. Mike Tannenbaum indicated after the season “It could be time to move on” from Gholston.

Since being drafted sixth overall in 2008, Gholston has averaged 14 tackles-per-season. His coaches averaged 25 “Vernon is about to turn the corner” quotes-per-year.
