Cmon man, I assume you are a Vikes fan and so you saw what he brought post injury this season when he wasn't even 100% yet. If there is anyway to resign the guy we have to do it. If we don't we are going to have an absolutely awful offense. With the exception of the Arizona game Percy Harvin's next 4 best games all came with either Moss or Sydney taking all the deep coverage off him. I love Percy but with no deep threat the guy is going to be a wayyyyy below average #1 receiver. Not to mention 8 guys in the box every play makes AP's running days a helluva lot tougher. You don't need much football sense at all to see the extreme importance of resigning Rice. Cut both Berrian and Madieu Williams since the both make 7 million a year to do nearly nothing positive for us, save the 20 million we were paying Favre to do nothing positive and I see no way we can't afford a guy who has been an absolute beast when he's been on the field.

Sid had 1 good year and a few too many injuries. If he wants to leave let him. I just couldn't see the Wilfs paying him a big money long term contract on one year of good play. If he was a true team player he would of had his surgury in the off season. Personally I want a rival to take him and have him soak up their salary.

shaggytool....

We're discussing the ascertation that the Vikings are continual doormats and irrelevant. Since the original poster concluded that the Vikings were relevant with Favre at QB, we can infer that being in contention for the SB is his definition of relevance, not winning it. By that definition, the franchise's winning percentage and playoff appearances are very much an indication of how "relevant" a team is.

Of course, to a true football fan who would rather see his own team win a game than the opponent lose it, any team that plays their collective hearts out is relevant. Just saying....

The Vikings were only relevent for just the short time that Lord Favre reigned over Minnesota and gave the pathetic frozen Twin Tundra’s wasteland a hope and energy they hadn’t seen in decades.
Now that Lord Favre has shown the pathetic Vikings and wasteland state what a winner is, the league can now go back to treating the Vikings what they truely are……. the irrelevent yet comical lil doormats of the NFL.
------------------------------
I have a simple solution for you. Don't read articles on the Vikings. Since you are implying you don't like hearing about them then don't read about them.

By the way they finished one year in last place. One! They made the playoffs without Favre many years. So don't act like Favre is the only reason why they were there again.

The Vikings are top-5 in franchise winning percentage and playoff appearances since the merger. In case you aren't aware, the top three teams in regards to the longest periods of irrelevance are the Cardinals, Lions, and (drumroll please...) the Packers. Ironically, it was the arrival of Favre that actually made the Packers relevant again.....

Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune makes a great point on Twitter. Rice may be a restricted free agent, given that he has only four years of service. Indeed, don’t be shocked if the Vikings apply a restricted free agency tender to any potential free agents with fewer than six years of service
______________________
And then what happens after the players laugh and remind them that a RFA tender doesn't apply to them? The language in the old CBA very clearly stated that the required years to become an UFA went from 4 to 6 seasons only in the uncapped year.As of 12:01 am March 4th, that year comes to an end. The only way they could successfully limit these players to RFA is if the new CBA alters the number of years required to be an UFA, if an impasse is declared and that change is part of the "last best offer", or if the union is forced to decertify and the league makes such a rule affecting free agency that applies to all players and teams. The problem with this scenario is that the league is already trying to get an additional $1 billion in revenue off the top and they'd really like to extend the season. They need to focus on what's most important to them. Trying to push for additional changes that could only serve to anger the union would only make coming to an agreement even more difficult. In the case of an impasse, a judge might not accept the notion that the league's "last best offer" included yet another previously unrequested concession. In the case of a lockout and decertification, the issue would also go before one or more judges. Making a league wide rule that would further weaken the freedom of the players would seriously risk a major anti-trust finding against the league. Seeing as how there's case history already for this issue with the old USFL case, that can't be a rock they want to turn over.
