Torrey Smith is confident he’ll be able to deal with press coverage

Maryland receiver Torrey Smith joined PFT Live on Tuesday. Among other things, Smith spoke about one of the biggest challenges facing wideouts making the jump from college football to the NFL.

Shedding press coverage.

Desmond Howard, for example, couldn’t do it, and it relegated him to making his NFL contributions primarily as a kick returner. Smith thinks he’ll be fine when the time comes to fight off defensive backs.

“I’m very confident,” Smith said. “You can watch my film. The majority of my big plays came from press coverage. It’s something we practice a lot at Maryland. . . . We go against press every day. . . . That’s not a part of my curve for the NFL that I’m really worried about.”

The entire interview with Torrey Smith can be seen at the PFT Live home page.
