Jaguars franchise Marcedes Lewis

We noted this morning that the Jaguars were likely to use the franchise tag on tight end Marcedes Lewis. Now it’s official.

The Jaguars have announced that they have placed the franchise tag on Lewis, meaning he’ll get a one-year tender offer worth about $7.3 million.

Lewis and the team have both expressed interest in getting a long-term deal done. The 26-year-old Lewis arrived in Jacksonville as a first-round draft choice in 2006 and isn’t expected to leave any time soon.

In 2010 Lewis started all 16 games and had career highs in catches (58) yards (700) and touchdowns (10).

This is a deal they need to get done. Lewis and Jones-Drew are the two bright, shining lights in a five-year period of Shack Harris-led drafting hell.

    Pay that man.

Well the good news is that Marcedes isn’t going anywhere anytime soon despite a one year franchise tag. I’m sure a long term extension will get worked out once the CBA is worked out.
