Jeremy Shockey schedules a physical

A day after he was cut by the Saints, Jeremy Shockey says he’s drawing interest elsewhere.

Shockey told ESPN today that he has a physical scheduled for tomorrow with a team that’s interested in his services. Curiously, he didn’t name the team.

Although Shockey is presumably healthy enough that he can pass a physical, he’s been no stranger to nagging injuries that have slowed him down or taken him off the field. He missed three games in 2010 and has never played all 16 games in any season.

Shockey, who will turn 31 in August, had career lows in catches (41) and yards (408) last season.

As a Cowboys fan, I have always routed against Shockly, but you can’t say he isn’t talented. He plays all out when healthy and will make someone a darn good tight end!

I would be willing to bet he ends up with the Panthers. 2 of their TE’s have expired contracts, both Rivera and the new OC have said they want to eliminate the TE by committee and get one solid TE. Plus the new OC was the TE coach for SD.

The only contradiction is his age. Last year they dumped everybody who had gone through puberty….. On second thought, that might make this a done deal then.

Is ‘scheduled a physical’ a code phrase for rehab?
