NFL spokesman Greg Aiello cautions into reading too much into the news that head coaches and general managers were summoned to a late afternoon Thursday meeting at the NFL Scouting Combine.
“It happens every year,” Aiello told NFL Network’s Albert Breer. “It’s a normal part of the Combine, which always has meetings galore. It’s not the first time. It’s not a special meeting. An update on labor negotiations would be appropriate.”
According to Breer, each team will send three people: the head coach, general manager, and a third person like a team President or lead cap person.
The only surprise, we suppose, would be if there wasn’t a large-scale briefing with most of the football world in one city. Still, it’s not every year that the league has to brief team personnel on what happens in the event of a lockout.
“These are unusual times,” Aiello admitted.
