@cytofed:

My apologies for misinterpreting the Michael Bush draft numbering, apparently my google search brought up another Bush--and I stand corrected.

It does not really matter though, as I listed about 15 other examples of poor front office manuvering, but I do stand corrected and readily admit it.

Bottom line is that the Raiders have made a thousand poor front office moves, and we will see if history repeats itself. Apparently our opinions differ, only time will tell.

"How's that Derrick Burgess guy working out for you?"

Unless you're referring to someone I hired myself, I don't know how he's working out for "me?"

You seem to think that I'm a Patriots fan, just because I used an example or two involving them?

Apparently, the front office of the Patriots' organization (whom I do not work for) took a chance with him for a 3rd rd pick and missed, I suppose that happens from time to time with anyone.

That hardly detracts from all of the players that I listed, if that was your 'point.' The Raiders have been a fron toffice nightmare, and that is a fact, not my opinion. Bringing up a guy that Al Davis paid millions of dollars to that no longer even works in the NFL only proves my point even more. At least the Patriots didn't take much of a risk, nor did they give him a bunch of money.

Komzyybaby clearly doesnt know anything about his own team. Asomugha has been the least penalized CB in the league in the last 3 seasons. given up the least catches. least amount of yards. least amount of tds. he is the definition of a shutdown CB. the other secondary players are below average in their positions based on hard evidence, not some bs opinion.

but i agree, maybe Oakland should let Aso go ))

If all the other team has to do is throw to the other side of the field... Is that really worth $18+ million a season? That's the question, bro.

PS: Do you have a youtube account?

I think people forget that we don't have any details on the contracts and how they're paid out. For all we know these contracts are back loaded. Stanford Routt, is may be getting his $20m guaranteed over the course of 3 years. Remember, it's UP TO $31.5 so there's got to be some incentives base pay like all contracts. The same goes for Seymour, they might look like huge contracts, but in order for the player to make the maximum salary of the contract they need to fulfill some sort of impossible combinations of clauses.
In addition, the Raiders are well below the cap prior to the signing. Plus without a 1st round pick, there's no extra money tied up on a rookie.

Some people questioned Al Davis for resigning Tommy Kelly and giving him the largest contract for a DT at the time. Well, look at how that turned out. He was 2nd in the league in sacks from the DT position. The guy was a beast last season.

Finally, this article doesn't make any sense. It's UP TO $80m over the course of 3+ years. On top of that the Raiders still have enough cap space, if cap space remained the same after a new CBA, to actually make Zach Miller the highest paid TE @ an avg of $8m a year and resign Aso @ an avg of $12m a year. And above all that they can still sign 2-3 guys for $7m a year before they enter cap hell.

If we're all ignorant, according to you, for thinking that the Raiders are in cap trouble, and you say that 'they're way below the cap, well below,' why are they 8th in spending as of last year?

This is the most recent article from the fall, where the raiders are the 8th highest payroll in the league. And this is obviously BEFORE all of these recent signings.

135.2 million (8th highest out of 32 total teams)

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/09/19/team-by-team-salary-cap-numbers-if-there-were-a-salary-cap/

Where do you get your information from exactly, that you know that we're all ignorant, and that the Raiders are 'way below the cap, well below?'

"For the ignorant: The Raiders were well below the cap before these signings, well below."

Oh really, and we're the 'ignorant,' according to you?

As of 11 months ago they were at 132 million, which would've been over the cap already, and that's not mentioning any of the huge, recent moves. When the cap comes back with a new CBA, the owners want it decreased to around the 2008 numbers.

Sure appears to be cap hell to me, but I guess we'll find out.

also @tatum064:

We understand the contracts, whether they're front-loaded, or back-loaded. If they're back-loaded, as you say then how does that not lead to cap trouble down the road? They'll never be able to afford those high numbered contracts in a few yrs, and will have to take a cap hit even if they cut them in a few yrs.

Let's take a look at the GENIUS that is Al Davis :

1. JaMarcus Russel--- 61 Million
2. Darren McFadden-- 60 Million
3. Javon Walker-- 55 Million 4.Darius Heyward-Bey-- 25 Million

All horrible, underachieving, overpaid contracts. The Russel contract is the worst ever in NFL history. Javon Walker may be the 2nd worst. That's 116 million for JaMarcus and Javon alone, lol. Many teams didn't spend that on their entire team last year.

Now Let's look at his great cap moves lately:

1. Seymour--- 15 million per year
2. Asomaugh-- 15 million per yr
3. Wimbley--- 11 million per year
4. Stanford Routt (LOL) 11 million per year
5. Henderson (was looking at NFL minimum) 4 per
6. Jason Campbell 5 million per
7. Kelly---- 8 million per

The ridiculous reaching of draft picks:

1. Michael Huff (1st rd---7th overall pick!!)
2. Mike Mitchell (shows promise, but 2nd rd?)
3. Michael Bush (another 2nd rd, recent DUI)

And finally...guys that will actually need signed soon

1. Chaz Schillens
2. Johnnie Lee Higgins
3. Asomaugh

Oh, and of course the Randy Moss debacle: Al gives him up for a 4th rd pick

(Pats received 3 1/2 seasons of top grade WR and also got a 3rd rounder for this year in the deal)
---------------

AND the fact that 11 months ago, they were at 132 million BEFORE all of these recent moves, projected over the cap already, and that's in the unlikelihood that it would not decrease.

http://www.ninersnation.com/2010/3/14/1372513/salary-cap-low-ballin

---------------

Yeah, it sounds like Al Davis is one freaking genius. I bet every team wants him and his top notch moves.

(Pats received 3 1/2 seasons of top grade WR and also got a 3rd rounder for this year in the deal)
—————

AND the fact that 11 months ago, they were at 132 million BEFORE all of these recent moves, projected over the cap already, and that’s in the unlikelihood that it would not decrease.

http://www.ninersnation.com/2010/3/14/1372513/salary-cap-low-ballin

—————

Yeah, it sounds like Al Davis is one freaking genius. I bet every team wants him and his top notch moves.

What do the playoff scores have to do with anything at all? It's totally irrelevant to the conversation. If that is your contribution, then maybe you should re-read the conversation.

The Jerod Mayo pick at #9, and the contract example were relative to the Raiders having given up their #17 pick this year. No ones talking about 'scores,' success, failures, or anything about that.

He said that Al Davis saved 30+ million by not having a first rd pick this year. I reminded him that OAK's pick at #17 (to New England) will not be for 30+ million, more like 3 million per year, and maybe 15-18 total. Nothing to do with playoff success, records, or the like. From a Raiders' fans perspective, you'd think you all hit the lottery if you went to the playoffs 2 yrs in a row anyway, lol.

I can understand why you're bitter, considering the tuck rule game, the Randy Moss steal, and the fact that they're STILL getting draft picks from the Moss trade even this year. Basically, New England has your 1st AND 3rd rd picks this year. That would make me wanna point out a playoff loss or two also, as absolutely irrelevant as it was to the post.

The Raiders were 2nd in the league in sacks last year, you know that right? Why are we talking about how many sacks Henderson had? Henderson was brought in to be a run-stuffer and has always been a run-stuffer. In fact, Henderson's career high in sacks came his rookie season (6.5), and he has only surpassed 4 sacks ONCE since (in 9 seasons). I literally remember reading an entire article/interview last season on how this guy takes pride in stopping the run (FOUND IT):

http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2010/08/09/john-henderson-hopes-to-solidify-raiders-defensive-line/

We clearly have one of the best D-lines in football coached by the guy (Waufle) who sacked the #$%^ out of the NFL the year the Giants won the Super Bowl.

I think "coach" knows what he's doing keeping him around.

Oh, one last thing: I thought when you have a D-line that got to the QB as much as the Raiders did last season, your CB's get more interceptions and chances to make plays:

Aso: 0 INT's, 0 FF's, 0 FR's. Ummmm?

Maybe I'm crazy, but letting Asomugha go might be the best thing for the Raiders. I've watched every single Raider game for years (live in Vancouver BC, travel to Oaktown for AT LEAST one home game every season, season ticket holder section 116, HOLLER), he has a knack for giving up the big play/penalty and loves to put his hands up in the air blaming the coverage, pretending he didn't know what happened. I love the dude, he's great, but I'd rather have C-Wood any day of the week.

With the $80.6 million worth of contracts in the matter of nine days given out by the Raiders, maybe it's a good thing that none of it will go to Nnamdi Asomugha.

Evan Silva, do your homework next time.

TROLL AWAY!!!

i think some of you guys are missing the point in regards to an uncapped year. an uncapped year may be exactly what some of the owners want. even though they can shell out as much money as they want, they also can be as cheap as they want. the uncapped year means that although there will be no ceiling on how much they can spend, there will be no floor either. so they can be as tight as they want with the money, and truly make some low ball offers.

and yes, maybe Al did overspend. but this CBA situation has everything up in the air. only thing that is certain is the draft. nobody knows when FA will start, or training camps for that matter. so maybe, just maybe, signing your own (after a much improved season) is the best way to go about it right now

@wetpaperbag2:

What in the world makes you think that we’re heading for another un-capped year? So you think that the owners (who are making the big fuss) are suddenly going to ‘give in’ and decide to extend the un-capped year/no salary cap rules, lol? They are the ones who want the cap not only reinstated, but actually decreased–back into the 2008 numbers.

Haven’t you wondered why no one but the Raiders are spending like this? It’s because they are likely to be in cap hell!!

(no disrespect for the Raiders, just that Al Davis may have lost his mind)
============================
No disrespect taken. Might I remind the entire thread....that MUCH OF THE SALARIES SPENT OUT IS BACKLOADED. It never spends out to the amount, because the player is either released or re-negotiates for less when the contract hits the accelerator clause. This depends and is unique to each contract signed. The key amount is the guaranteed money. That 80 million in total is not guaranteed. Thats why the CBA draft deal is so crucial for rookies.

they better keep Asomugha or all these re-signings are terrible.

also, considering the raiders had a terrible run defense, they sure are making it a priority to keep the same players…but their fans will spin it all in their favor like always… then the team will win 6-7 games next year and people will laugh.

People also laughed at 59-14 over the Broncos, too.
