just watched a recording of the whole press conference and I didn’t see anything like the meltdown that’s been described. Hard to imagine what the motivations for this kind of misrepresentation might be. The kid did fine in the face of tough questions. Watch the interview yourself on youtube, he did ok.

The guy who won the day is Jake Locker because he just surpassed Mallett on every teams draft board.

So if he stands up there and denies he looks like he is defending and all the media types get off on saying how he can’t own up to a mistake…. F that the kid did the right thing. sounds to me like he thinks an agent for another player has put this out there ( a very unheard of thing ? *sarcasm*) and that case the best way to disspell it for HIM is to talk to the people that matter the TEAMS, NOT the MEDIA.

Every year we hear this bull from the football media, and then down the road you wonder why some of these players don’t want to talk with you. If we had a more respectfull non tabloid media we would end up getting more info and thats in all areas of media not just sports.

This article isn’t about the NFL teams asking Mallet in private interviews whether he smoked pot so they can make decisions about their multi-million-dollar investments. This is about reporters grilling him at the podium and expecting him to confess to an illegal activity on film–a confession that could later be used against him in court. You get a freakin’ clue.

I bet at least 10% of the players at the combine smoke pot and for many it’s not a big deal and they quit but for some it is a big deal and they get suspended by the league after positive tests. Now you’re trying to tell me you feel bad that organizations about to risk millions, and with guys putting their careers on the line by picking him, they shouldn’t be asking the “poor kid” some tough questions about drug use that just about everyone is aware that he was involved with? Get a freakin clue.

Cut him a break Gregggg. He was put in a lose-lose situation. Either admit to his mistakes in front of a national audience (sounds like a lot of fun) or lie about it and say the rumors were totally false. He took choice C and tried not to talk about it at all and the media kept hounding him. So naturally it got under his skin a little.

Mallet owes the media nothing. If he goes into the interviews with teams and does the same thing and it turns out that he’s lying THEN he’s got a problem but until then it’s no one’s business, especially the media’s. What’s next, he’s going to have to answer to TMZ about this — get real.

This was very simple to handle and Mallett blew it. All he had to say was “the rumors are false, I didn’t do it”, and then move on. When you continually refuse to confirm or deny, they will keep asking you the question, and in this case he pretty much implacated himself by refusing to deny it. He’s a very immature player and this is not going to help him at all.

Yes, he’s only a college kid. But he had the opportunity to address the drug rumors directly Saturday and he chose not to.

He did address the drug issue when he said, “When I saw that stuff, I laughed about it,”
Asked if he could dispel the rumors outright, Mallett said he would only talk about the issue with NFL teams.

See Rosenthal, he did answer it directly but he didn’t answer it in the manner that you idiots in the media wanted so you try to portray him as something less than a standup guy.

The media is unskilled labor.
