Cam Newton runs sub-4.6 in the forty

Auburn quarterback Cam Newton registered “unofficial” forty times of 4.58 and 4.59 at the Scouting Combine on Sunday. Considering Newton checked in at 6-foot-5 and 248 pounds earlier in the week, his times are arguably more impressive than Washington quarterback Jake Locker’s 4.52. Locker is 6-foot-2 1/2 and 231 pounds.

Newton also posted a 10-foot, six-inch broad jump to lead the quarterback field.

Meanwhile, NFL Network’s Mike Mayock defended Newton regarding comparisons to former Raiders draft bust JaMarcus Russell.

“JaMarcus Russell showed up to the Combine 20 pounds overweight (in 2007),” Mayock noted.

"(Cam Newton) and Russell aren’t even close to the same issue.”
