Hines Ward finds a way to stay busy this offseason

Super Bowl Football AP

Steelers receiver Hines Ward won’t let a potential work stoppage ruin his offseason.  He’s found a new way to make some quick money.

Ward will appear on the next season of Dancing with the Stars, according Chris Mortensen.  It starts March 21.

The two-time Super Bowl champion will follow in a long line of professional football players that have done well on the show.  (We’re too lazy to look up how well.)

Ward’s appearance will inevitably mean that people we respect will watch the show and update Ward’s progress via Twitter.  A show built around unfunny semi-celebrities dancing around.   And nothing else.    It has all the drama of paint drying.

Some men will defend this mind-numbing behavior by citing how good looking the female dancers are.  These men are either whipped or have just given up on life.

Haha, you would think the producers of Dancing with the Stars kidnapped Rosenthal’s family.

Ggreg, maybe you should watch so you have something to talk about with the girls in study hall.

Way to go Hines! You’ve got my vote!

Should be interesting. I’ll be watching to see if he cheap shots Derek Hough in the back when he’s not looking, like half of his blocks during the season.

Finally a semi-legitimate reason for Ward to get a manicure and proudly show off his nails without those pesky gloves, as he did with Holmes on a pre-game feature a few years back.

No defending this one — just plain, uh, FABULOUS.

Harrison, quick, knock out another opponent to man things up around here again.

I guess I’ll have to watch the show. Hopefully there will at least be some eye candy on it, since there is absolutely no eye candy out on the Internet.

maybe it will make him run faster so he can get open, once in a while!

    Well said, Rosenthal. Well said.

He will just blind-side the other contestants.

Congratulations, Mr. Ward! You have single-handedly doubled the cultural resources of Western Pa.!!

Best article Rosenthal has ever written. I’m losing a lot of respect for Ward.

TV commentator A: “Hines Ward just loves to dance.”

Commentator B: “He always has a smile on his face. He just loves dancing.”

CA: “Oh, yes. That smile. He just has so much fun dancing.”

CB: “He has fun dancing, and he loves it!”

Somewhere in western PA, heads are exploding.

I guess after dancing all over the Ravens for so long he felt he should try it more professionally.

It’s official, now: I hate this man.

Hines what the heck were you thinking ? FACEPALM !

Although I was surprised to learn he would be on, I have no problem with it at all as a Steeler fan. I will enjoy being able to get to know him a little better with all the behind the scenes stuff.

Also Gregg, since you are too lazy to look it up, a few other NFL players that have been on the show include Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith (who I believe won), Jason Taylor, Lawrence Taylor, Kurt Warner and Warren Sapp. Why not be on the show?

Lynn Swann famously took ballet lessons to improve his ability to catch a football–and he’s a pro-bowler, a 70s all-decade team member, and is in the hall of fame.

And if you look at some of his catches, they are pretty amazing.

    Hope he won’t be considered a dirty dancer…y’know…since he’s considered a dirty football player….
