Chad Greenway signs his franchise tender

Vikings' Greenway dives for an incomplete pass from the Eagles during the third quarter of their NFL football game in Philadelphia Reuters

Another NFL player has locked in his franchise tag salary, just in case the rules following a work stoppage aren’t so player-friendly.

Chad Greenway signed his one-year tender on Tuesday and will make more than $10 million in 2011.  There was a chance that Greenway could have been a restricted free agent after a new CBA is reached, so signing the deal ensures his big salary.

The Vikings chose Greenway over Sidney Rice for the tag, who is likely to hit unrestricted free agency eventually.

Greenway joins Dolphins nose tackle Paul Soliai, Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley and Panthers center Ryan Kalil as players that signed their tenders.  Raiders linebacker Kamerion Wimbley is expected to sign his tender.

$10 mil for a LB? I know Greenway is one of the better players on the Viking’s defense but that’s like being the tallest midget at the porn convention. Sure there’s some stature to that but in the final analysis, you’re always looking up at the golden prize.

Really Jimmy? That post is lame even for you. At least before, you were mildly entertaining. You are just a caricature of yourself now. Doesn’t it get boring typing the same thing over and over? You really think after 2 years of your inane posts that any Vikings fan gets mad or takes you seriously anymore? I regret even posting this to you. Your ramblings are a desperate cry for attention. Any response for you is good enough, whether pro or anti. That’s pathetic and I almost feel sorry for you. Almost. Get some rope, find a rope. Jump. It’s that easy.

Well said. As misguided and as Jimmy is, at least he used to attempt to make a point. Jimmy’s posts and attempts at humor are so tired and played out at this point it’s hardly worth the effort to mock him anymore. I’m amazed he didn’t throw in his old stand by zinger about LA stadium, LA Vikings, California, etc… It’s just sad and pathetic. Jimmy, maybe you should head back into the basement for a while and work on your material.

Now we have something in common, I regret it also. What I find even more ironic is the article is about a Viking getting a big payday, $10 mil, and yet the majority (all except mine) are personal attacks on me and none of it is about the sad state of affairs, personnel-wise, of the team.

You just don’t go 50 years without a championship by accident, it takes years of screw ups, Hershel Walker block buster trades, renting a WR for 4 games for a third round pick, drafting a WR who can’t even catch with the #7 overall pick, to make that happen.

You mean like drafting a roided-out workout warrior with the second overall pick, the only one in the top 5 of that draft who didn’t go to the HOF? Mistakes like that? Or trading a future PB and SB QB to move up 7 spots to draft a guy whose ego was a lot bigger than his game, in a draft that featured 29 PBers int he first 64 picks?

Tell me, who are the Vikings going to draft in the third round this year? I have the answer, 100% guaranteed.

    No one.

Putting the tag on Greenway was the only thing that made sense. He was the only potential free agent that they knew they had to keep. This is the best option by far, but of course Vikings haters wouldn’t understand that. Let’s face, Vikings haters will never have anything positive to say about anything. That’s just who they are. And I can see their response now….”Why would we have anything positive to say about a team that hasn’t won superbowl in 50 years.” Blah, blah, blah. Same old comments, different day.

  10. JimmySmith says: Mar 2, 2011 3:39 PM

to be fair, there has only been 45 Superbowls so to say the Vikings haven’t won any Superbowls in 50 years is making it sound even worse than it needs to be.

But they lost 4 so we should point that out also.

That’s not hating, those are just the facts.

    Just do it.

And where were the Packers when the Vikings were playing in those Super Bowls? Beginning a run of 4 winning seasons in 22 years.

That’s not hating, those are just facts.

Must have been a lot of stupid personnel decisions that went into that run……
