Now that the NFL owners have been exposed as plotting for years to lock out and then take advantage of the players, this one has so much bad blood it'll never be resolved by September 2011, maybe not September 2012.

With the owners having planned for a lockout from the getgo and obviously not negotiating in good faith, and their about-face on the importance of games in those billion dollar stadiums, I'm on the side of the players!

What's so damn depressing is John Mara's involvement. If his dad was still alive, this would be over already. Wellington understood the only good contract was the one where both sides felt a little pain and he could keep Jones and Snyder in check. Little Johnny is just an empty suit. He's trying to fill the role, but is just too soft.

An extension would not be warranted unless there has been substantive progress made during the working sessions, which I doubt. In my judgment, the NFL owners should declare a labor impasse, and not a lockout, as the latter would, among other things, cede the public relations high ground to the players union. Regrettably, a player lockout is the most likely result here. Hopefully, we can count on a new CBA being signed before any antitrust litigation is adjudicated—i.e., within the next five years or so.

So with about 24 hours left, the two sides aren't meeting throughout the night?

Not a sign that an agreement (or an extension) is coming.

Get ready for bad news Friday morning.

I can't see them agreeing to an extension. It really doesn't solve anything and it would basically just nullify the owners plan to back out of a bad deal they signed a long time ago and have been dying to get out from under.

They need to keep bargaining almost non-stop until this thing is resolved, and all parties can have peace for the next 7 years or so.
